Dear Susie & Shawn- I am saddened to hear of the passing of your Mom. Rob N. announced it during the service today. I remember your Mom fondly. She had a great heart and spirit. She loved the Lord and it was evident in her life. My prayers and condelences go out to you at this time. God Bless- Diane Stahl

I tried to send this message to Shawn's email address, but it was continually returned as undeliverable, so here it is:

Hi Shawn,
I am so sorry to hear about your mom. I had heard she had been sick, but was not aware she was so close to dying. It was quite a shock to receive your news!
My memories of her go back many, many years. We were on staff together from 1987 to whenever she retired, but we knew each other well much further back than that – around 1982, I believe.
She was one of the most incredibly unique, fun, funny, passionate, sincere, loving persons I have ever known. I never did so much gut-splitting laughing as I did with her, and our little circle of friends (Judy Batten, Ellie Meadowcroft, Alice Gordon, Arlean Campbell, Grace Churchill and I). We were so very close and had such a good time with each other that, when your mom left staff and the church, nothing was ever quite the same. We grew to love Gene when he came into her life, but because of the travel distance and the fact they were attending a different church, and because of our exceedingly busy lives and some who moved away, we just didn’t stay together. But we surely never stopped reminiscing about those good ol’ days, and we surely never forgot our dear Betsy.
I would appreciate having Gene’s address so I can send him a card. Also Susie’s.
Many thanks, Shawn, for sending this message to us here at Fourth! I am very sorry that I will not be able to attend the service on Saturday, but I will be out of town. I hope it is a wonderful tribute to your mother’s memorable and precious life.
God bless you, Susie, Gene and all the other members of your families during this difficult time.
