I think of swim meets on Summer Saturdays often and your father was always on deck. It is on this side of 50 that I recognize what a sacrifice it was for all our parents to give up their Saturdays to support us. Thank you Mr. Broda. You live on in the lives of your children, your grandchildren and all the Parkland swimmers of your children's youth.

They must be having a Parkland Swim meet up in heaven. Between Referee, Starter, Head timer clerk of course, ribbon writers and timers they have it covered with both the Broda's, Greenleaf's, Fangmeyer's,Dossey, McShane, McNally, Friedman, and probably some I am missing. My Dad passed on May 10 at age 100.

Dear Jimmy, Patty, Ellen, and John,
It seemed like a lifetime ago that we were swimming at Parkland but I can remember it like yesterday. I remember your Dad always wearing a Budweiser visor, watch in hand, cheering on whatever Parkland swimmers were there. His memory will always live on. Please accept my condolences.

To John, Jimmy, Patty and Ellen (and all the grandkids and family), I just learned of the loss of your father and am sorry to have missed the service, so please accept our condolences.
Parkland Pool and swim team was such a huge part of and influence on my (our) childhood and your Dad was square in the middle of all that. His smiling face is etched in my memory forever, standing as Head Timer at the finish line always ready for a pat on the back and "nice job" if you did well, or a pat on the head and words of encouragement if you didn't... but either way smiling and laughing. Those wonderful memories we will share until we are reunited. Meanwhile, your mom and Ann will enjoy your dad for a while till our work is done here.

It takes a village and Mr. Broda was one of my village elders. He was the Head Judge at Parkland, usher at St. Andrews, father of my water buddies, friend to my father, and husband of my mother's best friend. Thank you Mr. Broda. Well done. Go in peace now. And to John, Patty, Ellen and Jimmy - thank you for sharing your father and may you find comfort in knowing that he lives on in you and your children and you will see him again.
