Dad...you will always be my hero. You were a teacher, a storyteller, and a true inspiration. You taught me how to use practical tools from a hand saw to an electric drill. You taught me how to measure, not by appearance, but by the heart. Thank you for everything. Arrivaderci, Papa! Love, Annie..."daughter #2"

Our prayers, thoughts, and sympathies are with Joe's family. I remember the incredible kindness of Joe and how much he cared about the young men of St Jude's. He was such a role model and I will always be grateful for his generosity to our family.

To the family,
I have so many warm and happy memories of the time I spent with Grandpa and Grandma Amato as a child. He was not my grandfather in blood but he always showered me with such love, affection and praise that I felt like I was one of his own. He was unfailingly patient and kind and my family will never forget the kindness and generosity that he and Grandma showed us when we were in a time of desperate need. I will think of him often and will remember him especially at Christmas dressed as Santa Claus with me on his knee. I am sorry that I cannot be there with you to celebrate Grandpa's life but I am with you in spirit. Lots of love, Kris (Kristin Ricci)

I knew Joe to be a gentle and loving person as we sang ist tenor at St. Judes from 1956 to 1968 and attended annual retreats at Loyola on Potomac. Though our paths parted so many years ago, I will always cherish his memory.

Cousin Joe was a wonderful person and devoted family man. He was first cousin to my father and a long with his departed brother Ernie helped to perserve the history of the Amato's from their beginnings in Italy to America. He will never be forgotten.
May his soul rest in peace.

I was blessed to grow up with the Amato Family. He was a kind and gentle soul who emulated great faith and the triumph of the human spirit. He inspired us all to forgo our disgressions and continue to love all who crossed our paths. I consider him one of the last great icons who touched our family. He will be missed, but we know he is in his glory with God and his loving wife Mary.
We love you Joe.
