RUSSELL BURTON THOMPSON "Burt"
Russell Burton Thompson, age 56, of Naples, FL formerly of Silver Spring, MD passed away on Tuesday, August 9, 2011 after a long battle with cancer. Burt was a cherished husband and father and will be missed by his family and many friends. He is survived by his loving wife, Lynda "Liz" Castano-Thompson; daughter, Nancy "Katie" Thompson; step-daughter, Jessi Warren; father, Bruce Thompson; brothers, Ronald and Robert Thompson; mother-in-law Diane Weaver; and sister-in-law, Judith Adams. Relatives and friends may call at Collins Funeral Home, 500 University Boulevard West, Silver Spring, MD (Valet Parking) Thursday, August 18 from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. where funeral service will be held on Friday, August 19 at 1 p.m. In loving memory, Burt has chosen to be buried beside his mother, Nancy Whiteford Thompson, at Slateville Cemetery in Delta, PA. The burial service will be held on Saturday, August 20 at 12 p.m. In lieu of flowers, Burt requested memorial donations be made to Avow Hospice, 1095 Whippoorwill Lane, Naples, FL 34105.www.COLLINSFUNERALHOME.com

Burt was the kind of person who leaves a foot print in your life. He was a selfless man who enjoyed helping others and sincerely cared about someone’s best interests. Burt had a unique personality but once you got to know Burt it was clear that he was someone with integrity, honesty, loyalty, compassion, dedication and would be a true friend to you till the end! For some Burt was their true love, amazing father, strong son, great brother, mentor and friend. For me Burt was someone very special. He was one of the most influential mentors in my life and believed in me. We shared many successful moments together through our many years of working together. As we entered new chapters in our careers we developed what I considered to be one of my most valued friendships. I truly feel blessed to have had such an amazing individual leave such a significant foot print in my life. He will surely be missed by many but will remain cherished by many more!

Very very sorry to hear of about Burt. Burt was one of our most favorite people of all time, a master in his field and always happy to share his knowledge with anyone willing to learn. Burt came into my life when i was 7 years old, he was the greatest second dad a girl could ever have. I say "second dad" instead of step dad because there was never any step involved in Burts love for me or mine for him. From the day we became family he embraced me and loved me as if i was his own child. I will never forget the love and care he gave me or all the memories we made together as a family.
Burt I love you and miss you, I promise to always continue to be the good "big sissy" that you always told me to be and takes care of your kates.
