KEVIN VAN JOHNSON, SR.
Of Gaithersburg, MD departed this life on Saturday, August 6, 2011. Cherished husband of Denise J Johnson; father of Lauren E. Tatum, Kevin Jr., Kyle James Johnson and the late Toi Claggett; son of Marjorie P. Johnson and the late Clifton E. Johnson, Sr.; brother of Diane Gray (Everette) and Clifton Johnson Jr. (Inge). He is also survived by in-laws, Johnny and Maryann Jacobs; brothers-in-law, John Cunningham, Allen and Mitchell Dove; sisters-in-law, Tina Owens, Terri Hinds, Dedra Jacobs and Cecilia Bell (George); uncles, Theodore Prather, Benjamin Jackson, Oliver Johnson and Charles Crewe; aunts, Thelma Bernice Howard,LaVerne Jackson and Anna Crewe; godmother, Ruby Howard; goddaughters, Lanika Howard and Rayshelle Covington; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The family will receive friends at Epworth United Methodist Church, 9008 Rosemont Dr, Gaithersburg, MD 20877 on Sunday, August 14, 2011 from 5 to 8 p.m. and on Monday, April 15, 2011 from 10 a.m. until funeral starts at 11 a.m. Rev Adrian V. Nelson II, officiating. In lieu of flowers, you are invited to make a contribution to the Kevin Johnson Children Scholarship Fund. Arrangements entrusted to SNOWDEN FUNERAL HOME.

Love you dad. Still living a life destined to make you proud. You truly shaped me to be the man I am today. Didn't realize how much I'd taken from you until afterwards. I've changed so much and grown so much. Me and Kyle have the same relationship me and you had at that time now lol. It's been hard on me but I've done my best to be the example Kyle still needs even though you're gone. I still think of you everyday and I miss you so much. Little things that remind me of you break me down inside but I do a good job of hiding it. Got to get the nova out this summer and see what I can do lol. Still working to become the man you always wanted me to be. To my best friend, love you and miss you.

Kevin showed me what it was like to just enjoy life in the moment and not to sweat the small stuff. His easy-going manner made him a favorite among his co-workers. Denise and Family, Sonja and I have been praying that the Lord comfort you at this time of sorrow and that he may grant you peace and strength. I thank the Lord for having met Kevin while at PPI. His smile lit up the place. He was a man who admired the Lord. We spoke life and encouraged each other when we needed a lift. We talked about our families all the time. It was through him and I that you and my sister in-law Dana Murphy, reconnected (small world huh?). Kevin will be missed but we have beautiful memories of him and those we will lose. Sonja and I pray that the Lord gives you peace as He said in John 14:27 “Peace I leave with you: my peace I give you”

I thank GOD for blessing my life by having my path cross Kevin's path. Kevin personified the type of person who enjoyed life to the fullest; who believed that through GOD, all things are possible and who reached out in relationship with his fellow human beings irrespective of their beliefs. I will miss Kevin, but I know my life is fuller because of my relationship with him.

Kevin was by far the kindest and most decent man I have ever known. His zest for life was contagious and his work ethics were solid. I enjoyed working with him and seeing his smiling face.

Denise and Family, my thoughts and prayers are truly with you in this time of deep grieving. Kevin is truly one of a kind and his joy, excitement and zest for life will be deeply missed. I realize nothing I can say will fix anything but please know you are being prayed for.
Kevin lit up my life every single time I saw him - an amazing, unbelievably full of life person with his eyes set on chasing the Lord. Every time I saw Kevin we talked about our families, what was going on, etc... we spent time encouraging one another and praying for each other and our families, many times (nearly daily). He loved to talk about Denise and the kids and how terribly proud he is of them. The joy he had in talking about all of you was infectious!
I feel blessed to have known and loved Kevin. I know that right now he's continuing to meet both old (he was overwhelmed with grief for his best friend who passed earlier this year - another man of God - and they're together again) and new friends and enjoying the righteous crown of Glory that he's earned. May God richly bless you my brother!
