Mike A. Dennie Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 28, 2005.
As they wept over his death, few mourners at Mike Dennie''s memorial service could remember when he wasn''t smiling. "Staff Sgt. Dennie lived deeply," recalled his friend Staff Sgt. Tanya Harris. "Not a day went by where he was sad or upset for more than five minutes. Even if he was, he''d soon be flashing those pearly whites again." Dennie, 31, of Fayetteville, N.C., died Sept. 29 from injures he sustained a week earlier in a vehicle rollover. He was based in Germany. Dennie was born in Jamaica. He joined the Army in 1996 and served until 2001, then rejoined in 2002. He helped get pay and petty cash to 13,000 troops at operating bases. Until recently, he had formed an inseparable trio with two other soldiers. The others wrote a tribute that Harris read at the service. "We''ll always remember your sayings and funny comments especially the ones that made no sense at all," they wrote. "It''s hard to believe that our trio is now down to two." Dennie is survived by his wife, Beverly, and daughter, Imani.

I know that SSG Dennie went to be with the lord so, I know that he's in a better place now. I always remember him smiling and giving alot of funny jokes, so I'm always going to remember him in that way.

Thanks for bringing brevity to every situation. Coming to your office was always a treat, and it saddened me to hear that you had passed while I was on leave in Germany to celebrate my 2n'd year anniversary. And, although we didn't talk on a daily basis, I was part of the detail that brought broke soldiers to you on a daily basis and you always found a way to help us out. I was shell-shocked to learn of your passing when I got back from R&R. My life will never be the same. Will think of you every memorial day. Rest in Peace brother, R.Como

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Mike, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

If this person can stand in battle to ensure my freedom, then I will stand in grief with his/her family to honor him/her. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Le Ron A. Wilson (a dear friend KIA 7/6/07, 18yrs old) that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.

Hey Bro,

You are truly missed. Whenever I felt sad, you always did something to bring a smile to my face even when I didn't feel like smiling. Your laughter was contagious; spirit was one to be desired. Winston and I miss and love you. Always and forever in our hearts.

What I miss the most about you is your smile and that loud voice. I remember one time in Iraq when I was trying to sleep and all I can hear was your mouth calling SGT Mac. SGT Mac was on the other side of the bldg! I also miss our fights. You know that we had that love/hate thing going on. I really miss you and I remember our last convoy-you were sick and kept forgetting to take the right turns :). You are truly missed!

I BELIEVE WHEN ONE PASSES WE SHOULD REFLECT ON OUR OWN LIVES AS WELL AND REMEMBER THAT WE DON'T KNOW THE HOUR OR THE TIME OF OUR OWN DEMISE THEREFORE WE SHOULD REALIZE THE VALUE OF ONE YEAR , REALIZE THE VALUE OF ONE MONTH, REALIZE THE VALUE OF ONE WEEK, REALIZE THE VALUE OF ONE HOUR, REALIZE THE VALUE OF ONE MINUTE, REALIZE THE VALUE OF ONE SECOND. REMEMBER TO LIVE LIFE AND LOVE THE LIFE YOU LIVE.
