Alvin Leff Obituary

Leff, Alvin "Al" Jay
67, of Phoenix, AZ passed away peacefully at the Sherman Home Hospice on March 9, 2015. Alvin was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois as the second child of Daniel and Doris Leff. After graduating from Bell School and Lane High School, he attended Gallaudet College (now University) in Washington D.C. Alvin shared great times with his Class of 1971 classmates. Alvin married Donna Haynie Leff, Class of 1973. While living in Chicago, Phoenix, and Atlanta, Alvin was active with many organizations related to sports and associations for the deaf. The majority of Alvin's career was as Controller of Kitchen and Haynie Royal Tire Company, a company in Atlanta co-founded and run by Alvin's father-in-law, Ed Haynie. After Alvin retired, he and Donna moved back to Phoenix to spend more time with Alvin's father, Daniel. Alvin continued volunteering with several organizations, including the Phoenix Association of the Deaf and the Mayo Clinic. Alvin is survived by his spouse, Donna, and his two sons, Issac and Lewis. His brother Marvin and sister-in-law Karen continue to live in Phoenix, as well as Alvin's father, Daniel. A private, family service will be held on Thursday, March 12, 2015. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in his memory to the Class of 1971 Scholarship Fund at Gallaudet University. Donate online at https://giving.gallaudet.edu/donatenow (choose 'other' donation designation, type in Class of 1971, and donate 'in memory' of Alvin Leff in the tribute section), or mail checks payable to Gallaudet University with the fund name on the memo line and in memory of Alvin Leff, to Gallaudet University, Office of Development, EMG Memorial Building, 800 Florida Ave. NE, Washington, DC 20002.
