Janet was born on November 30, 1942 in Annapolis and grew up on the banks of the Severn River in her grandfather's boat yard, Smith's Marina. Janet enjoyed her childhood and summers on the river even though, as a fiery red-head, the best tan she could ever hope for was to get her freckles to all move together as an organized team. Janet had a life long passion for sports cars, convertibles to be specific, and even in her later years, was planning her next purchase of the coveted blue BMW convertible. She graduated from Arundel High School, Class of 1960.
Janet worked for C&P Telephone as an operator, and Nationwide Insurance in her early twenties; she even did a little time as a school bus driver. Though she stood at only 5'4" tall, no towering high school student ever gave Janet a hard time, and students remember her fondly for keeping them safe and getting them home in good and bad weather. Janet was a business owner with an entrepreneurial spirit that couldn't be tamed. She owned and ran a final-phase construction cleaning service, Busy Bee, Inc, which she rationalized to be "clean dirt" since it had never been lived in. She also created and ran Ski the Peaks Ski club for many years. This club catered to high school students and families in the mid eighties and early nineties, taking many students and even some adults on their very first ride down the slopes and ultimately to the big year-end trips out west in the Rockies. Steamboat Springs, Colorado was Janet's favorite place on earth to ski.
Janet always enjoyed working with people, and was never shy to give an opinion or a recommendation. This talent lent itself well to her final career as a real estate agent for ReMax in Anne Arundel County. You could find no more genuine, dedicated, and caring agent in the area than Janet. She enjoyed many repeat clients and received various awards recognizing her success and dedication to her clientele who ultimately became "family."
Janet was a member of Baldwin Memorial United Methodist Church, and loved snow skiing, horseback riding, sailing, road trips to almost anywhere, and rollercoasters - the bigger the better. Most of all, she loved to dance!
Janet raised two sons, who carry on her sincere love for people, and the ability to find good in most any situation. Janet loved life, being silly and fun with her boys, and always seeking out new adventures. Janet touched many lives in her life, and left a mark not soon to fade away. Janet never colored inside the lines.
She is survived by her former spouse, Brent I. Hughart of Annapolis; two sons, Brian M. Conrad of Pasadena and Shawn A. Hughart of Forestville, CA; two brothers, Gary Moses of St. John, USVI and Brent Moses of Crownsville; sister, Pamela King of Orange City, FL; grandson, Taylor Conrad; and mother, Mildred Crutchley of Crownsville. She was preceded in death by her father, Dale Moses; grandmother, Lillian Smith; and grandfather, Alonzo Smith.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Sunday, March 20 at the Taylor Funeral Home, 147 Duke of Gloucester St., Annapolis., where the funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 21. Your strength and courage, your faith and energy were an inspiration to me! The journey we walked these last 20 months was filled with so many joys and tears, but through it all we laughed and best of all we did it together, I still smile every time I think of you getting to walk outside for the first time and feel the sun on your face. I enjoyed everyday we spent together and will always cherish the memories of the adventures we shared roaming those less traveled back roads.

Brian, I have fond memories of your mom from "back in the day" at Old Mill. She was always supportive and positive in dealing with the young people in our program. I know that it has been a "long haul" for you and for her in the many months of her hospitalization. I hope that you and your family are doing ok at this most difficult time.

A wonderful woman, who was kind enough to give a young teenager his first job. Truly made me appreciate what could be gained from a little hard work. Rest in peace and my prayers go out to her family.
