Sam, what a wonderful man. You always were the one to open your home to me when I came to visit in San Diego. You were the one to keep a watchful eye on my daughter Tonya for me. You were her guiding light. I will never be able to thank you enough for your generosity both to me and to Tonya. I always looked forward to spending time with you. I am sad to think that oppertunity to spend more time together has now passed. You were a wonderful friend and you will be missed by all who knew you. Rest in peace Sam.

Sam, Although it's been many years, you are still that man that helped me open a checking account, get a loan for my first car, and supported my independence. Always generous, always full of good advice, and unwavering faith that I could achieve anything I set my mind to. I am sorry that you and I could not reconnect in time for you to see that you helped me grow up into a happy and successful person. A person who might otherwise have no direction if it weren't for the guidance I got during that time in my life--more specifically the direction you pointed out... The years have passed so quickly, and I did think we would some day cross paths again. I was always proud to call you my Uncle Sam. You are missed by all those who's lives you've touched, gone too soon. I wish you peace, lovely man. You are missed.

Dearest Boo Boo-I just learned today that you had passed. I am so sorry you are gone too soon. To your son Samuel,my sincere sympathy. Your father was a man of great intellect and enormous wit, and frequently all the charm in the world. I regret he will not be around for you to know him as an adult. That would have made him very happy.

Although we only met once, we were "email buddies" for the past several years. Dear Cousin Sam, I will miss your political savvy, your compassion and humanity, and of course, your wry sense of humor.
God Love You.

Sammy and I were cousins, related by marriage several lines removed. Although we were cousins, in fact we were more like brothers. We had known each other since elementary school, and were the best of friends. After college we each went our separate ways, but still saw each other on a regular basis. About 18 months ago I visited him in Las Vegas, where we spent several days reminiscing about all the experiences we had shared together over these past 60 plus years. Through regular e-mails and calls, we remained best of friend all our lives. Even up to a few days prior to his death, we had spoken on the phone.

I know one of his greatest love was flying, where he had been a commercial pilot for PSA, World Airlines and US Air for over 28 years.

To his son Samuel, I would offer these words. Remember your father always loved you and was not only a great man, but had served his country well as an Air Force pilot. You should be proud to be his son.

Sammy you be be truly missed.
