Obituary

Alaina Petty died February 14, 2018 in the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in Parkland, Florida. She was 14.

Alaina was a member of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas JROTC program and volunteered for hurricane relief efforts with the "Helping Hands" program of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

The Sun-Sentinel quoted her family's statement: "Her selfless service brought peace and joy to those that had lost everything during the storm. While we will not have the opportunity to watch her grow up and become the amazing woman we know she would become, we are keeping an eternal perspective."

The Miami Herald quoted her great-aunt Claudette McMahon Joshi's social media post: "There are no hashtags for moments like this, only sadness."

Legacy mourns all those who died at Stoneman Douglas.
