Arthur Stoll Obituary

Stoll, Arthur N. Chelsea, Michigan Age 87, passed away Sunday, July 16, 2017 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Chelsea. He was born May 23, 1930 in Ann Arbor, the son of Arthur D. & Erma M. (Haarer) Stoll. Art graduated from Dexter High School in 1948, and in 1949 he married his high school sweetheart, Patricia A. Pingston. Art retired from Chrysler Proving Grounds in 1989 after 37 years of service. He was a valued member of the community; his professional affiliations included active roles in the Lions Club, Chelsea Jaycees, a volunteer at Waterloo Farm Museum, the Masonic Lodge and Royal Arch Masons, UAW local #1252, and a founding leader of Boy Scout Troop 420. In retirement, his interests were as varied as his collection of quirky sayings. He spent many years boating on Cavanaugh Lake, enjoyed antiquing, and he made sure his yard remained pristine at all times. His greatest enjoyment came from the many relationships he cultivated and maintained throughout the Chelsea and Dexter communities. Survivors include two sons, Howard (Becky) Stoll of Pleasant Lake, David (Jeanene) Stoll of Gregory; two daughters, Kathlene (Carl) Chmielewski of Durham, NC, Mary (Doug) Degange of Temecula, CA; a brother, Norman L. (Deborah) Stoll of Ann Arbor; 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren with two on the way, many nieces and nephews, and his beloved companion Maryann Myers. In addition to his wife Pat, who passed in 2009, Art was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Donald Stoll. The family will hold a visitation on Thursday, July 20th, 6-8 PM at Cole Funeral Chapel, Chelsea. A celebration of Art's life will be held Friday, July 21st, 11 AM at Chelsea First United Methodist Church, with Rev. Joy Barrett officiating. A private burial will be at Webster Cemetery in Dexter. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Chelsea First United Methodist Church, Shriners Hospitals for Children, or the Chelsea Senior Center.

So shocked to hear of Arts passing it was always a joy working with him during my 35 years at the Proving Grounds. We would see him at Big Boy and any time he drove by our house and we were in the swing he would stop. He will surely be missed such a great guy. I would like to attend but due to the fact I'm getting chemo and my immune system is compromised I avoid crowds as much as possible

I worked with Art at the Proving Grounds. Very nice guy and I always enjoyed chatting with him. I remember him towing me with his boat as I was learning to water ski at the lake. He will be surely missed. May his family have peace at this time.

We are so sorry to hear of Art's passing. He was a dear friend to both of us, but more importantly a dear Brother Mason to my husband. He and Art shared many good times at many York Rite Meetings. We moved to Arizona 6 years ago, and my husband and Art kept in touch and Art never failed to ask about me when he talked to my husband on the phone. He was a true friend. We will miss him very much.

Art was just a little older than I am. He and I always corresponded during the year and at Christmas. I'm so sorry at the loss of your Dad. He was/is a great guy.
