Bertha Hibbard Obituary

Hibbard, Bertha Louise of Chelsea, formerly of Gaylord, age 94, died Thursday, August 17, 2017 at Silver Maples of Chelsea. She was born August 19, 1922 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the daughter of Fred C. and Ida (Vilter) Trubshaw. Bertha earned her Bachelor's degree from Marquette University in 1944. As part of the World War 2 effort, she moved to Washington DC to work as a cryptographer in the Army Security Agency. After the war Bertha moved back to Milwaukee and married her brother's best friend, Clark Hibbard, on September 4 1928. She and Clark moved from Milwaukee to Beloit and then to Cincinnati where they lived for over 20 years. Relocating to Ann Arbor for Clark's career, they retired to Gaylord in 1987. They were married for 56 years, until Clark's death February 18, 2006. Ber was a well known employee of the Ann Arbor Trust Company, serving customers and Vice Presidents with charisma and efficiency. She maintained this position as the bank merged, eventually retiring from Key Bank and moving to Gaylord. Ber moved to Silver Maples of Chelsea in May 2010. Survivors include a son, Richard "Rick" Hibbard of South Lyon; a daughter, Mary Hibbard Ramirez of Evanston, IL; 4 grandchildren, Anthony, Melanie, Megan, Maximillian; 4 great-grandchildren, Matthew, Annabel, Willow and Jonathan. She was preceded in death by her sister, Ida Webster and brother, Fred A Trubshaw. A memorial service will be held for the residents of Silver Maples in September. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.

We had the privilege of being friends with Ber for the last four years of her life. She was constant, steady, generous and kind. We are thankful for the time we had to be with her and will miss her.

Ber was a great lady that I knew while working at Ann Arbor Trust. She was special to everyone. Always a friendly face and a smile.
