Dorothy Fugate Obituary

Fugate, Dorothy Chelsea, Michigan Age 83, died Sunday, August 14, 2016 at Chelsea Retirement Community. She was born November 19, 1932 in Beal City, Michigan, the daughter of Frank & Dorothy (Swarthout) Kornexl. Dorothy was a 1951 graduate of Ann Arbor High School and earned an Associates Degree from Eastern Michigan College in 1959. She had lived in Chelsea since 1987. She started working for Michigan Bell Telephone Co. (AT&T) at 17 years old, and worked there for 32 years, retiring in 1987. She was a lifetime member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, and the American Legion Auxiliary in Dexter. Survivors include a son, Dale F. Passow of New Bloomfield, PA; one granddaughter, Kelly (John) Kinzer; two great-grandchildren, Charlie & Blake; two brothers, Gerald Kornexl of Harrison, John Kornexl of Texas; three sisters, Mary Hadley of Grass Lake, Evelyn Myles Kotar of Wolverine, Lillian Shankleton of Jones; and many nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by two husbands, Dale L. Passow and Gerald Fugate; two brothers, Frank Joseph Kornexl, Daniel Lee Kornexl; and two sisters, Bertha Brown Richards, Shirley Barnard Driver. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 17, 1:00 pm at Cole Funeral Chapel, Chelsea, with Pastor Amy Triebwasser officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove East Cemetery in Chelsea. The family will receive friends at the funeral home noon to 1 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to Salem Grove United Methodist Church.

Frank,
Gregg has many fond memories of your mom. Unfortunately, I never really knew her, but, I will never forget the one and only conversation I had with your mom, as she grilled me over Gregg's qualifications to captain a boat in the waters off the Florida coast - 15 miles out!!

I will always remember that conversation and smile. You know, we moms never stop being moms, no matter our children's age. She obviously loved her family very much and I know you all will miss her.
