Evelyn was an important person to our whole family: a more than able secretary and church administrator at First Methodist Iowa City when my dad was senior pastor, 1962-1972, she was also a good friend to my Mom. She saved my toddler brother's life twice, when he got himself into dicey situations in fellowship hall, and on the roof of our parsonage next door. To me, Evelyn was a revelation. She was my friend too, even though I was only 8 years old when I met her. I was impressed with her British-made bicycle with 3 gears, which she let me ride. (She never told me she took it on a 1,000-mile adventure in Europe!) I remember all the times she babysat us, and we bird-sat her chatty Mynah. Evelyn sparkled with kindness, adventure, faith and a great sense of humor. She was one of a kind.

Beautiful, sweet soul, wonderful friend. I was truly blessed to have her in my life. She will live forever in my heart.
