Family-Placed Death Notice
SHAPIRO, Adam Adam Shapiro, 59, passed away quietly in his sleep of natural causes. Adam is survived by his younger sister Laura Shapiro of New York, Atlanta, and Boston and her long time partner Alan as well as his elder sister Janet Model of New York and Boston, her daughter Mirah and son Jonah, and her husband Mitchell. Adam is predeceased by his parents Gertrude (Hoppenfeld) Shapiro and Dennis Shapiro, owners with Laura of the Atlanta retail shop Kitchen Fare. Adam was a well-known and respected participant in a multitude of social action and religious organizations. He was a weekly host of 'Current Events' on radio WRFG. Adam's life, though tragically short, is an inspiration. He lived fully, accepting his blindness and advocating for the rights of all people. He touched the lives of others with his insights, ecumenical values, and his straightforward goodness and honesty. We invite all who wish to share in a celebration and remembrance of Adam and his life to join us at a memorial gathering. Time and place will be posted on Facebook at 'Remembering Adam Shapiro' and announced on WRFG. The family requests that donations be made in lieu of flowers to organizations to be posted on his Facebook page. Arrangements by Dressler's Jewish Funeral Care, 770-451-4999.

I read of Adam's death while in Johannesburg, S. Africa and quite by accident. I remember him as an intelligent and intense young man who overcame great obstacles with the help of his loving family. I send my most sincere condolences to Laura and Janet as well as my very best regards. If this message reaches you, please contact me as I don't know how to reach you. Mort would have been saddened by Adam's death very much as well, I know.

My condolences to the family members of Adam Shapiro. Although I did not know Adam. I work with his sister Laura Shapiro, who is an exceptional, caring, great human-being and a very hard worker. Reading the articles about Adam is an inspiration to know how passionate he was in the work he did. May he R.I.P.

I hardly knew Adam, although he gave me great support in restarting my radio program "What the Folk?!" He sat in on the show the first time I was on the air again last year and knew so much about the music and the politics. He fought for me with those who disagreed with the program concept and called me several times with great encouragement. I regret I did little to return the kindness and favor he gave to me. I am sorry to see him leave us. WRFG will miss him dearly for all the love he gave the station.

My memories of Adam are all good. He was so intelligent, so passionate about the causes he was interested in, such a good friend. Condolences and love to his family. I will miss him.
