Betty Vandiver Obituary
As the wife of Gov. Ernest Vandiver, she championed the founding of Milledgeville's Central State Hospital, the first state institution for the mentally ill.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Lavonia First Baptist Church, with a private burial in Lavonia City-Burgess Cemetery.

I just saw the obituary that Betty passed away. I'm about 6 months late, but my heard still sank. It was always a breath of fresh air seeing you, Betty, & Loyd. I will always remember how personable and friendly you two were. Thoughts & prayers go out to the family.

Betty Russell Vandiver, our gracious First Lady of Georgia was beloved across Georgia. She never met a stranger, and her personality would light up a room. Throughout her life, she was a blessing to her family, her community, her state and to all those she met. Nancy and I send our expression of deepest sympathy to her family.
