I just learned of Brooks' passing today. I worked at a newspaper that covered one of UTSA's rivals. Brooks was always friendly, chatted with me at the games about what was going on outside of basketball and was quick to call me back. That was appreciated. I'm so sorry to hear this.

Brooks was the greatest player I've ever played with or against. The only thing to surpass his immense talent was his zest for life and his loyalty to his friends and family. I'm so proud to have called him my friend. To Sue, Neal, Becky, Chip, Michele and the girls, I pray you'll find a peace and comfort that transcends all understanding in the midst of your grief.

I officiated numerous games while Brooks was the HC at UTSA. In general, referee's and coaches tolerate each other. Not the case with Brooks Thompson. I had the utmost respect and admiration for Brooks as a coach, competitor and human being. He was genuine in every endeavor and it was so clear that his heart was in the right place. We have lost lost a true ambassador for what college athletics should be. RIP Brooks and God will comfort those who are anxious to see you again.
