NORMAN CLARK Obituary

NORMAN JOSEPH CLARK - COLCHESTER - Norman Joseph Clark, 85, of Colchester, died peacefully with his family by his side in Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington, on Sunday, July 7, 2013. Norman was born in Yonkers, N.Y., on Sept. 27, 1927, the son of Joseph and Agnes (McCarthy) Clark. He graduated from Sacred Heart High School, where he was class president and captain of the varsity basketball team. He served his country with the United States Army of Occupation in Nuremburg, Germany. In 1951, he received a B.B.A. degree in marketing from Manhattan College in Riverdale, N.Y. Norman was married at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Adams, N.Y., on Oct. 13, 1956, to Rosemary Anne (Folino) Clark. Norman began his career in advertising and promotion for Meredith Publishing Co. in Atlanta, Ga., followed by American Cyanamid Co. in New York City. He was then appointed advertising director for Sonotone Corp., headquartered in Elmsford, N.Y. In 1972, he was named Chairman of the Hearing Industry Association Committee on Ethics, after being a member of the committee for the previous three years. He purchased Sonotone of Burlington in 1978, moving his family to Burlington from Westchester County, N.Y. Norman was a member of the International Hearing Society for over 30 years, with Board Certification in Hearing Instrument Sciences. He continued as owner of Sonotone of Burlington until his retirement. Norman was an avid member of Tugboat Enthusiast Society, as he spent summers during his youth working as a deckhand on tugboats in New York harbor. Both his father and uncle were career tugboat captains. Norman also enjoyed traveling (especially cruises) with Rosemary over the years. Norman is survived by his wife of 56 years, Rosemary Clark; five children, Karen Clark, Joseph Clark and partner, Cindy Rooney, Frank Clark and wife, Susan, Marie Meunier and husband, Richard, and Nancy Laramee and husband, Michael; grandchildren, Jeremy Clark, Leeanne Hudson (husband TJ), Ross Clark, Nicholas and Christine Meunier, Ryan and Tyler Clark, Jacob and Julia Laramee; great-grandchildren, Harley and Grayson; sister, Janet Dyba; brother, Robert Clark; sister-in-law, Ruth Clark; brother-in-law, Francis Folino and wife, Patricia; many nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends. He was predeceased by his brothers, William Clark, and Richard Clark and wife, Phyllis; sister, Joan Fuller and husband, Roland; and brother-in-law, John Dyba. The Clark family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to Fr. Julian, Sr. Jeannine, and Sr. Theresa of Holy Cross Parish, and to caregivers, Sue Hamacher, Brenda and the Visiting Nurse Association staff, the staff at FAHC Shep 4, and Dr. Ziegelman. Visiting hours will be on today, July 9, 2013, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the LaVigne Funeral Home, 132 Main St. in Winooski. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 10, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Colchester. Interment will follow at Lakeview Cemetery in Burlington. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Holy Cross Catholic Church, 416 Church Road, Colchester, VT 05446.

Dear Rosemary and family,

It was a priveledge to get to know all of you and Norm. I remember fondly our wheelchair walks around the neighborhood and trying to catch a glimpse of the lake. I'm sure he is now captain of his own tugboat heading to the promised shore.

The Manhattan College alumni community shares the grief, and is now praying for our fellow alumni and the family at this time. The Alumni Office has been informed. As well as the Jasper Jottings community that I personally can reach. We are all a little poorer now. "No man is an island, entire of itself ... any man's death diminishes me". We are sorry for your loss.
