Al was one of the funniest guys I knew. He always made us feel welcome when we visited for conferences and ran a great operation. He will be sorely missed by all of his friends at IAVM

I am sorry to hear of Al's passing. I know he will leave a big void in many lives. I worked for Al at the Calgary Convention Centre when I was just starting out. A lot of years have passed, but I often think of him and his family. Muriel would make Christmas gifts for us and Al would bring them in. A great family and a huge loss. My condolences go out to all of you and may the fond memories of Al get you through the tough times.

I was saddened to read that Al had passed away. I have very fond memories of Al when I was on the board of the Calgary Convention Centre as a Calgary Alderman. Also a couple of rounds of golf. Pleas accept my sincerest condolences.

I am so sorry to hear of Mr. Richards Passing. I will always remember him for his big heart, jokes and fun. When I was a kid growing up my dad worked with AL at the convention center and we spent time traveling together. I could always count on a shark chasing me in the pools, and even at the fancy restaurants being tricked and joked with. As I grew older he umpired my baseball games that I pitched in and he really showed an interest in my love of baseball. After many rounds on the golf course I learned to watch out for his putter and stayed on my toes!! Always a fun time with Mr. Richards. He was much like an Uncle to me...and always cared about what I was always up to. I will miss him and will always remember him!! Rest in Peace Mr. Richards!

Muriel and Family,
I am so sorry to read of Al's passing. I will always remember him telling me to call his numbers at the Watergrove bingo and his enthusiastic sports score updates during bingo. My sincere sympathies to you all at this difficult time.

I met Al through Little League baseball over 40 years ago. He not only was a qualified umpire,(good enough to work the Little League World Series), but also a strong supporter of Little League baseball. He was instrumental in getting the North Hill Lions Club involved in the creation of Foothills Little League Diamond and the clubhouse that exists today as part of the Foothills Athletic Complex. He also was a proud Calgarian who loved talking sports and what was good about our city. I also had the pleasure of knowing his children through baseball. My thoughts are with the family at this difficult time.

Janice and I are so sorry to hear of Al's passing. I first met Al through the Little league Umpires Association, where he took on a leadership role. We had many animated rule interpretation discussions and shared many humorous stories over the years. Al's were always the most entertining, as he was a born story teller. He will undoubtedly be missed by the many whose lives he touched. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Muriel and family at this difficult time.
