John Jordan Obituary



John (Jack) D. Jordan Jr. passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 28, 2014 at Sunrise Assisted Living in Severna Park. He was 75 years old. Rita Jordan nee McMahon passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 29, 2014 at Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis Md. She was 75 years old. Jack was born on April 5, 1939 in New York, New York. He was one of three sons of the late John D. Jordan and Mary Agnes Jordan nee McGrath. Jack was raised in New York City, and attended De La Salle institute. He graduated from Manhattan College in 1961 and later joined the United States Air Force. Jack served in the Air Force for over 20 years. After retiring from the Air Force, he worked several years for Planning Research Corporation (PRC) in McLean Virginia before completely retiring in 1995, Rita was born on July 18, 1939 in New York, New York. She was one of three children of the late John J McMahon and Winifred Rita McMahon nee Fletcher. Rita was raised in New York City. She graduated from Saint Vincent's Nursing School. She worked in various hospitals as she and Jack moved from place to place with the Air Force and raised four children. She retired her nursing career in 1995 after spending the last 15 years working for the American Red Cross Jack and Rita were married on November 25, 1961. They raised four children while moving from place to place with the military. Jack and Rita loved sailing. After retiring, they sold their home and spent most of the next 10 years living on boats and sailing from port to port. They docked their boat for the final time and settled in Vero Beach Florida in 2006. In October, 2013, they moved to Sunrise Assisted living in Severna Park. MD to be closer to family. In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by his brother Patrick Joseph Jordan. He leaves behind his brother, James Peter Jordan of Upper Marlboro Md and his two half-sisters Mary Ryan of Renmore, County Galway, Ireland and Ann Martyn of Ballina, County Mayo, Ireland. In addition to her parents, Rita was preceded in death by her sister Claire Ryan. She leaves behind her brother, John J. McMahon of Boise Id. Jack and Rita also leave behind 3 sons, John Jordan and wife Lynn of Annapolis, Md., Michael Jordan and wife Jodi of Niceville, Fl. and Robert Jordan and wife Lisa of Powder Springs, Ga.; 1 daughter, Regina Edwards and husband John of Brambleton, Va; ten Grandchildren: Bridgette Jordan, Danielle Jordan, David Jordan, Robert Jordan, Matthew Jordan, Mark Jordan, Katie Jordan, Eric Jordan, Tara Edwards and Shannon Edwards and one step-grandson Michael Ritcheson Friends may visit on Monday November 3, 2014 from 4-7:00pm at the Barranco & Sons,P.A Severna Park Funeral Home 495 Ritchie Hwy. Severna Park, MD 21146. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday November 4, 2014 at 11:00am in the St. John Catholic Church 689 Ritchie Hwy. Severna Park, MD 21146.

The Manhattan College alumni community shares the grief, and is now praying for our fellow alumni and the family at this time. The Alumni Office has been informed. As well as the Jasper Jottings community that I personally can reach. We are all a little poorer now. "No man is an island, entire of itself ... any man's death diminishes me". We are sorry for your loss.
