Jon Faurot Obituary

Jon Leonard Faurot died unexpectedly on May 15, 2015 at his home atop Flagstaff Mountain in Boulder, CO. He was born Nov. 30, 1946 in Lima, Ohio to parents Leonard and Gini (Pifer) Faurot. He grew up in Lima, graduated from The Ohio State University, and then received his Master's in Business Administration at Bowling Green University. He moved to Colorado to further his education and began doing construction work on the side. His skills in construction and business led to the founding of Faurot Construction, which he successfully ran for over 25 years. He loved spending time in the home he built. The mountain scenery surrounding his home in Boulder served as his playground with regular dirt biking, hiking, cycling and animal watching. He was an advocate and supporter of several causes and organizations including the Alzheimer's Association, where he became a support group leader after lovingly and patiently helping his mother thrive despite the obstacles of the disease. He gained the sure-fitting nickname "The Most Interesting Man" due to his likeness to the actor in the popular Dos Equis commercials, his adventurous lifestyle and his adoring personality. He loved skiing with friends and family, and he was known for singing along loudly to his music and his epic wipeouts in the trees. He bounced back from the worst crashes, and some of his Moosehead dirt biking crew deemed him the toughest guy they knew. He was the ultimate handyman - always keeping his Swiss Army Knife on his hip and his truck full of tools. He always shared his love of music with everyone, whether through hours of music videos, concerts, or sing-alongs in the car. He knew when to make a joke using his contagious laugh to lighten a serious or sad moment, but he was never afraid or able to hide his sensitivity. He lived his life with integrity, willingness, openness, humor, and humility. He had a unique ability to connect in a special way with everyone he knew. His hugs were strong and long-lasting, just like his friendships. He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew and loved him. Jon will be specifically remembered by his wife Leslie Hendershot Faurot; his children who always made him so proud - Shawn Faurot (Kristen), Nicole Faurot (Javier Di Fiori), and Michelle Faurot; grandchildren Hudson and Greyson Faurot; his siblings Jill Gerken, Janice Faurot (Joe Weber), Jean Neering (Mike), Chip Faurot, and George Faurot (Frances); and his many nieces and nephews who brought him much joy. He was preceded in death by a sister, Judith Lynn Faurot, and his parents. A gathering to celebrate his life will be held near his home in Boulder on Tuesday, May 19 at 4:00 pm. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association (http://www.alz.org/join_the_cause_donate.asp).

Jon was my friend since junior high school. We spent many hours at each others houses on Cole Street, swimming in high school and then at OSU. Sorry we were so far apart as adults. He will be sadly missed.

And for a brief moment it's glory
And beauty belong to our world.
But then it flies again
And though we wish it could have stayed
We feel lucky to have seen it." Author Unknown

To Leslie and your family. I was so saddened to hear about John's passing. It took my breath away when I heard about it from my sister Mo. I loved John like a big brother.
He was only two years older than me but light years ahead of me in life's realities. I spent many night's at the house on Cole street. His mom Ginny would
always have work for John to do the next morning and I would head home. That's where his work ethic came from. I spoke to John last just after Brett died. I will keep him in my heart forever and your family in my prayers also. He was one of the most special people in all the world. My love to you all.

I remember Jon from my childhood years, mostly at Shawnee County Club. I last saw Jon in 1977, having just moved to Colorado and attending a party at the home of Pete and Regina Kirsch. As I recall there were 11 of us from Lima at that party on Gross Reservoir.
And, of course, we all knew the Faurots and loved Faurot Park as kids.

Though, I had not seen Jon in many years, just the other day I found myself thinking of him. Pictures floated thru my mind of good times with him in Lima and Colorado. Jon sure knew how to have fun and he knew how to be gentle and caring when needed. I will never forget how on a cross country ski trip he helped talk me thru an arduous part of a trail that started at Shrine Pass before the descent into Vail, and then headed west in a pretty steep draw along a stream and ended at a Mexican restaurant in Red Cliff. I am so sorry he is gone.

I will always remember Jon as a great friend and contractor. I had the privilage to work on several of his jobs over the years and appreciated all the times I met with him on those jobs. We always joked about when we were both going to go somewhere nice for a vacation. He seemed to think I was always on one and I did the same with him. Wish there were more guys around like him, he was a pleasure to be around. I wish his family the best, I know you all meant a lot to him.
Also everyone at Precise Mechanical who knew Jon from our days with Faurot also wish his family the same.
