Hello,
We realize that we are very late to express our deepest condolences, but we wanted to let your family and friends know that we will be sending Care Packages to deployed troops this week and several of these will be dedicated to your loved one. Each package will carry the name, photo and hometown of Sonny C. Zimmerman US Army Staff Sergeant.
We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals from across the American youth hockey community, their families and friends and others who support our mission.
We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you safe and strong.

Dear friends and family of Sonny C. Zimmerman. I'm so sorry for your loss. I'm very thankful for your son,husband that fought for our freedom. I learned about him in our 4th grade writing class. We leaned about the brave young men that sacrificed their lives for our freedom. All gave some and some gave all . Freedom isn't free but every day i'm proud to be a american.

I can't explain the feeling and thoughts that are going through my mind except that sonny was a great leader and soldier, yet more a friend.My thoughts and prayers are with your family and friends. I have never forgotten the times we shared, from life fire ranges, to watching the football game. I will forever be in debt for helping me become the person i am today..

As you embark on this journey of sadness it is my prayer that God will speed relief from your pain. As a Viet Nam era Veteran, it breaks my heart every time a Warrior pays this tremendous price. I know words cannot provide a respite but I wanted you, the Zimmerman family, to know that my heart breaks with yours. I know it's sometimes hard to hear but some of us really DO CARE. During this very trying time I offer my own heart and shoulders to lift some of the pain from yours.

Do me a favor when you meet all your brothers and sisters who Gave All seek out my husband David and let him know his son and I love him and miss him. I'm still trying to get answers about why his remains aren't home. It has been 42 years and counting.

The Final Salute
“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.
This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to our Brother-in-Arms, SSG Sonny C. Zimmerman, U.S. Army. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Sonny. And to Sonny it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the supreme sacrifice he made for his country while opposing enemy forces in Afghanistan. Sonny you gave the last full measure of devotion for what you believed in and fought for. No greater love and patriotism are shown than a man lays down his life in service to his country. Sonny, you are a brave American Warrior, a true Patriot and a national Hero. With your passing, our Country has lost a National Treasure. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at ease. Rest in Peace.
