Al was definitely one of the nicest people I've ever met. And he will most likely be the best boss I've ever had. I'll never forget the night he drove me home going 50 down Green Oaks at 10 o'clock at night, barely being able to see over the steering wheel. He did not make one mistake.

We have enjoyed Al and his burgers since the early 1970's drive-in on N. Collins. Then, on weekends, Al, Thelma, and Melody set up shop at Mosier Valley Motocross Park to bring great food and good cheer to the crowd, riders, and families.
Riding and Al's, two of our favorite things. I can see Al in Heaven, going WFO in his '39 Ford.

Although I have been gone from Arlington for 26 years the memory of Al's Hambugers takes me back to a happier time in my life. At Al's one entered as a stranger but left as a friend. A rare and special place created by a rare and special man. Thanks for feeding my tummy and my soul. Rest in peace Al, you will be missed but never forgotten.

April 25, 2014

We lost a GOOD one on Monday. It was our pleasure to know Al and his wonderful wife Thelma for many years. These two were the "proverbial match made in heaven". You will never find two people more willing to give of themselves than Al and Thelma. Being in the Foodservice business and having the pleasure of working with Al, I marveled at his simple but very successful business philosophy ... Give them fresh Quality product at reasonable prices and do it the same way every time.. no shortcuts !! Well, Al you did it just that way!!! You will be missed by many. You could always count on a friendly atmosphere, good food, good fun, good conversation, lots of laughs and PLENTY of customer service at Al's. Our thoughts and prayer go out to Melody, Gary and Nicholas and the rest of the family during these difficult times but we can all take comfort in knowing that Al and Thelma are together again and that Melody and Gary will keep Al's memory alive in best hamburger place in the metroplex. RIP Al.

Al was "one of a kind", always smiling with that twinkle in his eyes. We were neighbors for almost 50 years and he would have to pass our house to get to his. When my late husband happened to be outside they would talk and laugh for an hour at a time! Al was a special friend to all who knew him.

I'm so glad I have had the opportunity to know such an incredible man. Al didn't know a stranger. To meet him meant you had a life long friend. He had such an infectious smile and enjoyed life to it's fullest. He truely had a heart of gold. My family has so many good memories to look back on and cherish. My son's first "real food" at a restaurant was at Al's Hamburgers and for many years that was our Wednesday night spot. We loved our long conversations about the world and life. He will be forever in our heart. I can hear the music that Al and Thelma are dancing to and see his great big smile as he is now resting with the love of his life! The pair have an incredible love story. May his family find peace in all the wonderful memories.
