Frank Benes Obituary
Dr. Frank J. Benes III, D.O., age 56, of Scottsdale Ariz., formerly of Erie, lost his valiant fight with Myleofibrosis on Wednesday, April 2, 2014. He was born on September 3, 1957, in Erie, Pa., the beloved son of Frank and Pauline (Kita) Benes.
Dr. Benes graduated from Holy Trinity Grade School, Cathedral Prep High School, Gannon College, and Des Moines University's College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his residency in Emergency Medicine at Delaware Valley Medical Center and Oxford Valley Medical Center in Pennsylvania.
Dr. Benes is a fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians and the American College of Osteopathic Emergency Physicians. He began his medical career at Indian Health Services at the Gallup Indian Medical Center.
For more than 15 years he served as Medical Director, Division Chief, and Residency Director for Emergency Medicine with Hamot Medical Center in Erie, Pa. He served on committees for Medical Ethics, Quality and Credentials and Disaster Preparedness as well as serving on the Board of Directors for Tri-State Trauma and the Regional Medical Directors Advisory Committee. In 2007 he became Medical Director at Banner Baywood Medical Center in Mesa Ariz.
In 2008-09 Dr. Benes received the prestigious award being named "Medical Director of the Year" for the Western Region by Team Health.
Dr. Benes, known for his great sense of humor, loved spending time with his family and friends. He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, fly tying, golfing, and making home movies. He enjoyed spending time with his dog, Chuckchi and his cat, Vince.
Besides his parents, Dr. Benes was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Paul and Aniela Kita and Michael Patalita Sr.; paternal grandparents, Frank and Alexandria Benes Sr.; many aunts, uncles, brother-in-law, niece and cousins.
Dr. Benes is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 32 years, Bille (Cunningham) Benes; seven sisters, Pauline (Bill) Ellis, Frances Macrino, Georgia Benes, Kathyleen Benes, Elaine (Dennis) Renz, Alice (Bob) Koziel, Larraine (Joe) Sarti, and many nieces, nephews, Godchildren, aunts, uncles, cousins, and special friends.
Friends may call at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, East 22nd and Reed St. on Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at 11 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Mass at 1 p.m.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Holy Trinity Church, 2220 Reed St., Erie, PA 16503.
The Carl A. Slomski & Son Funeral Home Inc., 2101 Ash St., is handling arrangements.

To the Benes Family,
I am Glad to have grown up with Frank & to known of his great services to our community & in Arizona. This was not a out come any one expected for Frank..May he be taking care of the Folks & all in need of his services in Heaven. He will be missed. Please Take Care Benes Family..sorry this is a bit late..but you may know I was taking care of my ill Mother who just passed too. May the Elder Benes & the Dubinski Girls have some laughter above too.

Bille and the Benes girls,
I was schocked when I heard of Frank's passing from cousin Kathy & Pearl. Althought I was only with him and his wife a few times I will always cherish the fond memories, his humor and good times. Pease accept my sincere sympathy on your loss. All of you will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Billie, I worked with Dr. Benes in the emergency dept. at Hamot for many years until I left the dept., and eventually moved from the area. He was always a kind, caring, and talented physician with a sense of humor, and a joy to work with. My heart goes out to you in the loss of your dear husband.

To Dr. Benes Family,
In 1993, I was taken to Hamot in an ambulance as a result of a bicycle accident. I don't remember much of what happened except that a young, patient,competent physician diagnosed me with a concussion. Somehow, I vividly recall continuing to ask him his name and each time he responded "I'm Dr. Benes." I remembered his name for the past 21 years and I will always remember how kind and understanding he was during the many hours I spent in the ER.
I often wondered what happened to Dr. Benes and now I know he's looking down on all of us and continuing to take care of his family, and hopefully, former patients.
Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers.
