John Shaffstall Obituary


John "Jack" Shaffstall, 70, died unexpectedly on Sunday, November 23, 2014, at his home in Erie. He was born February 10, 1944, in Erie, son of the late Merritt and Leona Corry Shaffstall.

A lifelong resident of Erie, Jack graduated from Academy High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served during the Vietnam Era. He worked for Krivonak Heating and Air Conditioning for 35 years, and had also worked for General Electric. He was a member of the Siebenbuerger Club.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepmother, Leah Shaffstall; two brothers, Larry and James Shaffstall; and three sisters, Phyllis McClelland, Lucille Hughes and Joanne Lane.

Survivors include his wife, Elaine M. Bettinger Shaffstall of Lincoln, Neb.; two sons, Joseph Shaffstall and wife Jennifer of Erie and James Shaffstall and wife Wendy of Cincinnati, Ohio; a daughter, Tina Shaffstall of Lincoln, Neb.; a brother, Richard Shaffstall of Erie; two sisters, Sally Berger of Florida and Sandra Shaffstall of Pen Argyl, Pa.; six grandchildren, Derick, Edwin, Jacob, Jonathan and Jessica Shaffstall and Tristan MacDonald; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m., at the Scott Funeral Home, 2104 Myrtle St. A memorial service will be held in January 2015, on a day and time to be announced.

We can't begin to imagine what you are feeling, but let us share our heart-felt condolence. I can still remember the fun experiences with Jack at GE (seems like about a million years ago now) and helping him occasionally with heating jobs, his energetic spirit and never ending joy for life.
