DUNWORTH, Leonard L., D.O., FACOS Age 91, of Grand Blanc, died Friday, January 23, 2015 at Genesys Medical Center. A memorial service will be held 11AM Wednesday, February 4, 2015 at Our Risen Lord Lutheran Church, 4040 Lapeer Rd., Burton. Reverend Susan Lidums officiating. Burial at Great Lakes National Cemetery will be at a later date. Visitation will be held 4PM to 8PM Tuesday February 3, 2015 at Sharp Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 6063 Fenton Road, Flint, and again at 10AM until time of service at the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the East Flint Food Bank or ORL Lutheran Church. Dr. Dunworth leaves behind his beloved wife of 69 years, Jane and his children, Dr. David (Darla) Dunworth and Jane Ann Cannizzaro, his grandchildren, Jeffery Driggett, Amanda (Aaron) Dixon and great grandchildren, Ethan, Tristan and Isabella Dixon. Dr. Dunworth was born on March 16, 1923 the son of the late Frank and Ethel Dunworth in Centerville, MI. where he grew up with siblings June and Lawrence whom both preceded him in death. He was active in sports in Centerville High School and was inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame and graduated Val Victorian in 1940. After a year of premedical study at Western Michigan College he enlisted in the Navy Air Corps. In June of 1945 he was commissioned Ensign and received his Wings. After WWII, he returned to Western Michigan College in Kalamazoo and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree. He graduated from Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1952, where he was honored to have earned membership in the National Honorary Osteopathic Fraternity. He completed an internship and a surgical residency at Flint Osteopathic Hospital. During the years of practice at FOH he served as Chairman of the Department of Surgery, Chief of Hospital Staff and President of Genesee County Osteopathic Association. He was a member of the Michigan Osteopathic Association and served as delegate to MOA for 30 years. He was also a Fellow in the College of Surgeons. He was associated with Flint Osteopathis Hospital for 35 years and after retirement in November 1987, he volunteered at the hospital to teach physical diagnosis to the trainees.
