Lyle Call Obituary

Lyle James Call was born on January 11, 1957, in La Junta. He was the only son of Mary Lou Davis and Ron Call. Lyle graduated from Fort Morgan High School in Fort Morgan in 1975. He briefly attended Fort Lewis College in Durango. Lyle then worked for several years in and around northeastern Colorado, in the oil fields, Great Western Sugar plant, and David Electric Company. In 1987 to 1990 Lyle was employed by ITT Corporation at McMurdo Station in Antarctica. Upon his return he worked as an electrician in Florida and Texas, before becoming a journeyman ironworker in Denver from 1991-2000. In 2001 Lyle moved to Boulder City, NV and became a member of IBEW Local 357. He was hired out of the union hall to be the general foreman on the 64 story Vdara Tower part of the newly constructed City Center project. In 2010 Lyle went to work for the Al Sharif Group as a project manager at Camp Leatherneck in Kandahar, Afghanistan. He worked with the military, and managed a crew of men from a variety of nationalities, in extreme conditions, and sometimes dangerous combat situations managing all phases of construction of K-span buildings. He returned to Colorado in 2013 and worked for various electrical contractors in several states on solar plants and gas plants. On July 27th Lyle was driving from North Dakota to Glenwood Springs to retrieve his passport for his latest adventure. He had been hired to work at a military base on Kwajalein Island an atoll in the Marshall Islands in East Micronesia. Lyle was killed in a single car accident 3 miles east of Gypsum Colorado. Lyle was preceded in death by his mother Mary Lou Davis. He is survived by his father Ron Call of Montrose, CO, sister Lisa Bernard of Littleton, CO, sister Cheryl Alves De Souza of Gonzales, CA and sister Michelle David and brother-in-law Bob David of Glenwood Springs, niece Melissa Bernard, C.J. Hilbourn and great nephew Gavin Hilbourn of Littleton. Lyle was also a step-uncle to Carey Price of Lafayette and Shane David of Glenwood Springs. A celebration of Lyle's life will be held at Saint Barnabas Episcopal Church 546 Hyland Park Drive Glenwood Springs on Saturday August 6th at 4:00 pm. Lyle was, funny, smart, energetic and extraordinary. He travelled the world with curiosity and wonder. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

We can not express enough of our deepest sympathy over the loss of your beloved Lyle. What a truly remarkable life he experienced. Reading about Lyle's life reminded me of the verses in Ecclesiastes 7:1, 2 where it mentions that a good name is better than good oil, and the day of death is better than the day of birth...
For the fact that when one dies, the name that they have built for themselves with their past is truly admired. And what a name Lyle built for himself! It must have been a pleasure for all that had come in contact with him.
All in all, please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers. And do try to take care of yourselves, to get your needed rest during this time.
