George D. Helvey passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 13, 2017, in his home, at the age of 95, surrounded by family. Born in Fresno, CA, on November 18, 1921, he was the only child of George Sr. and Adele O'Neill Helvey.
After his family moved back from San Francisco, CA, he graduated from Fresno High School, and Fresno State College where he ran track for the Bulldogs. It was on the college campus where he met the love of his life, Mari, his beloved wedding partner of 73 years. The two were the parents of four, Susan and husband Alan, Mark and wife Janet, Gregg and wife Anne, and Joan and husband Michael; while being blessed with seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
After retiring from Producers Cotton Oil Company, George and Mari traveled the world and were even acclaimed as the "best dancers" on the Queen Elizabeth II. He started a second career at H & R Block for many years. George will be remembered for his quick wit, sense of humor, and especially as a most loving husband and father.
A Recitation of the Holy Rosary and a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Shrine of St. Therese Catholic Church on Tuesday, September 19, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. Entombment will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Agnes Hospice; or Nazareth House.

A true gentleman in every sense of the term. Nothing but kindness, empathy, and professionalism was shown towards my mother, Gertrude Helm, by him while preparing her tax returns. I know she looked forward to her annual meetings with him.

Mr. Helvey was a great guy all the way around. A very good friend of my father's for many, many years and a fun guy for me to get to know, especially over the last 10-15 years. He was witty and engaging and a true gentleman. He will be missed.

For many years, Mr. Helvey prepared my parents' tax returns. I met him on several occasions and was impressed with both his professionalism as well as his expertise in tax law. He will be greatly missed.
