Stuart Simons Obituary

SIMONS, STUART M. The Honorable Judge Stuart M. Simons, a resident of Miami since 1952, passed away peacefully at home on October 7, 2017. He was 81 years old. A family service was held on Sunday. Born on May 25, 1936, to Michael and Anna Simons in Brooklyn, New York, Stuart moved with the family to Miami and studied law at the University of Miami. He was elected to the County Court in 1972 where he was Administrative Judge of the Civil Division and was appointed to the circuit court by Governor Rubin Askew. Stuart served on the bench for 37 years, garnering a reputation for his comprehensive knowledge of the law. He loved the law and considered it a privilege to serve the community in that capacity. Judge Simons was known to treat every person with kindness and dignity. Stuart married his lifelong love Rochelle at the Hotel Lombardy in 1963. His eternal love for Rochelle was a constant in their marriage as they navigated life in an inspiring partnership. He was a devoted husband and father whose family was the daily center of his life. He enjoyed his life to the fullest hand in hand with his loved ones. Having lost his father at an early age, Stuart remained a devoted son to his mother and all his family and brought a joyful dedication to his role as father, grandfather and great grand-father. He was a humble and gracious man, much beloved by his friends and family. He is survived by his daughters: Melisa Neuman (M. Gary), Jill Smith (David) and Jennifer Simons. His grandchildren: Yehuda, Esther (Douglas) Michael, Pacey, Danny, Ahava, Zachary, Ali, and his great grandson, Daniel We will miss his wisdom, wonderful sense of humor and comforting strength. Shiva will be observed beginning Saturday night at the family home.

To the entire Simons family: I had the honor of knowing Judge Simons when I was an attorney who appeared in front of him and then as a colleague for over 18 years. Stuart was no nonsense and able to cut to the core of issues with amazing skill. He had an understanding of and sensitivity to people that was belied by his reserved demeanor. It is a shame that there are not more (people/Lawyers/judges) like him. There is truly a hole in my heart at his passing.
