Andy was a cherished childhood friend. He made the difficult times more bearable, and the fun times more memorable. How fortunate I was to have had him in my life. Thank you, Andy, for the blessing of having known you.

I don't know if any one will see this... But Mr. Sudkamp was my favorite teacher... The dude was funny and always happy . I remember he told me if he ever had a daughter he would name her chrysanthemum... I left EHS in 2007, and was completely crushed when I heard the news of his passing...
I hope your resting good Mr. sudkamp, I bet God is enjoying the flowers with you

I think about Andy all the time. I still have a tufa pot he made for me in my garden. Andy gave me a pinch of a succulent that was growing on the roof of an outbuilding and I use it all over my yard. It's hard not to think about him while tending to my flowers. I miss him.

Funny this popped up in my Email today. I was just thinking about Andy yesterday. I was imagining what a political conversation would have been like with Andy over our current situation unfolding. I can just picture him going off on the crazy state the world is in right now. I miss him.

I was hired the same year as Andy to teach Floriculture alongside his Horticulture! I am a better teacher because of him. We shared excitement for the seasons and despair when beloved trees were removed from our EHS campus! His artful doodles always relaxed the tension for those around him during school meetings!! I'll forever remember your love for the botanical by gazing at the Japanese Maple at my home that was rooted by your Horticulture students over 10 years ago!! You made a difference at Everett High!

My husband and I worked with Andy Bob (he was the first of us to get the middle name Bob where we worked, with all of us following suit!) for several years at Forestfarm. He was a wonderful friend. I'm so glad we got to see and visit with him at Forestfarm reunion. He will be so missed, we were all like a close-knit family. He was a very loving, kind man. I'm so glad he had several years with his soul-mate Mary Anne. God bless, Andy..... Love ya man!

Andy & MaryAnn's beautiful garden has been on the Gardens of Merit Tour more than once. Here is a link to a video I made of their garden this June. Andy was so thrilled to share his love of the natural world. My heart goes out to the entire family. I hope it brings a smile, because Andy would want us to smile when we think of him.

Andy was one of the smart ones in our Neoga High School class. He and I took a lot of science classes together. What most set Andy apart was his independent thought. He did not do or think something just because [a lot of] others did. He had a great sense of humor, too. A silly story from high school: Mr. Luallen (History, Consumer Education, and Speech teacher) had a student teacher with a jawbreaking European-sounding last name. Someone asked the teacher what kind of name that was-that is, where was his family from? The student teacher asked whether anyone cared to guess? Andy raised his hand first. Latvian, Andy said. And the man said that Andy was right! I wish I'd known Andy after high school. It sounds like he led a very interesting life after leaving our area. Andy, you made us all laugh.

I grew up with Andy in the little town of Sigel, Illinois. We had a lot of fun when we were kids and I always cherrish the times hiking out in some woods or playing late night games with other neighborhood kids. Andy was a unique individual. I will always consider him a friend of mine.

I remember Andy well! He was an uncle to one of my grade school friends, Candace Sudkamp, but he was also a son to one of my newspaper customers, Tony and Ruth Sudkamp (his parents). I know he loved biology even back in high school because his father one afternoon showed me all of "Andy's" plants! His father was so proud of Andy's work and it was remarkable even to me because I was in grade school! I also remember him taking Candace and me to visit his friend...he was such a great uncle to her and so nice to me on that trip. Thank you Andy for some great childhood memories of Sigel, Illinois! May you rest in peace!

Oh, just such a cool guy! Sometimes, when first meeting someone you just know who they are and that they will be a friend. That was Andy to me last year in my first year at EHS. Great energy and warmth and commitment to our students. One day last spring, he came to a screeching halt at the apex of a hallway where my office and 2 counselor offices meet, papers in hand, scanning all three of us to remind himself of who he was there about and therefore, who he had to see. Down to business, boom ta da boom, and on his way. So purposeful, so focused, and so cute. To his wife, family, and close friends I offer my heartfelt condolences for your terrible loss.

Mr.Sudkamp was an amazing teacher who always told funny jokes and made people laugh. He told me to follow my dreams and I am. Biology wasn't a great subject, but with Sudkamp as the teacher it was kind of fun. He will be greatly missed.

I knew Mr. Sudkamp when I was a sophomore. He inspired me to love science, a love that has stayed with me all these years. So much so that he is the reason why I want to be a science teacher. Not only that, he was a great mentor, he often helped me through troubling times and taught biology like no other.
Some days he would see me across campus and scream "BOWERS!" And I'd scream back "SUDKAMP!"
His teachings stayed with me all throughout my Marine Corps career. His loss is deeply mourned. He inspired the students at Everett High in a way that so many teachers tried to do, and only few actually did.
So for one last good bye...
"SUDKAMP!"

I travelled through Europe with Andy and learned a lot about his passion for travel, life in Slovenia, and biology. He made the trip extremely enjoyable and instilled in me a thirst for adventure. I was so shocked to see that he had passed, but I know that he loved his life and lived it to the fullest. Andy, thank you so much for sharing your time with me and showing me and know that it was very much appreciated.

In the past several years I got to know Andy while working at Everett High. He was so passionate about his gardening and would bring in plants and pictures to share. His goofy jokes I will admit were contagious and when trying to repeat them I could never do justice. Andy, I will miss you so. Take care my friend!

Andy, you were always the voice of reason in a room full of wobbly people. "Down to earth" seems cliche--but that is really what made you tick; your love of the earth as a planet, as well as the people who inhabited it. If you got tickled at something, you just smiled, chuckled and folded your arms. You were more about focusing on the positive energy than the negative energy. I got a kick out of watching you walk around campus with all your great hats! How lucky EHS students were to have you in their lives. You were a JOY. We will miss you so much.

I had Mr. Sudkamp in 11th grade. I'm 21 years old now, but I remember his lectures and giddy ramblings like it was yesterday. "Isn't nature wonderful, ladies and gentlemen?' His soul was so pure and he had the most beautiful outlook in life. He will be greatly missed by all the students who's lives he was able to make an impact on. It breaks my heart to hear that such an amazing person has passed on.

I didn't know Andy personally, but am deeply saddened to hear of his passing.. my husband and I were delighted and so inspired upon viewing the backyard masterpiece created by Andy and MaryAnn as part of the Everett Garden Tour. We talked to Andy for quite some time, and he was so helpful and kind with our questions. Thank you Andy for the inspiration you provided us; we're in the middle of a very large landscaping project, and your kindness, sharing of gardening information and your piece of paradise was instrumental. I'm so glad to have met you....

Andy's kindness and compassion was evident at all times. He greeted students warmly and took interest in their lives. His authentic love of nature and joy in life inspired many towards careers in science. He taught and modeled to us all to be kind to the environment. Andy was a vibrant member of the Everett High Community will be missed.
