BOBBIE JEAN WIDNER

Bobbie Jean Widner, 86, of Temple, TX passed away on Sunday, January 11, 2015.
Bobbie was born on June 14, 1928 to Fred and Dollie Barker in Farwell, Texas.
She met her future husband in a registration line for classes at ENMU in 1947. They were married on July 18, 1948. They had four children: David , Connie, Charles and Linda.
She taught the mentally retarded children. She was especially fond of her work with the Special Olympics and attended the International Special Olympics in 1979 as a sponsor of the California team. Throughout her career she taught in New Mexico, Texas, Missouri and California.
After retiring 1984 she and her husband Robert went to American Samoa for 2 years to work in a mission school and established the curriculum still used there today. Upon returning home they settled in New Mexico. She assisted her husband with his work as Assistant Director for New Mexico Department of the Aged for many years.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years Robert; three of their children, David Widner of Purcell, Oklahoma, Connie Moffat of Temple, Texas and Linda Cook of Milton, Wisconsin; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, four sisters and one son Charles.
Service will be held on Monday, March 16, 2015 at 10 a.m. with Reverend Steve Smith officiating at University Baptist Church, 1012 W. 15th St. in Portales, New Mexico, 88130.
