Sandra Kay "Sandy" Altenberndt

Altenberndt, Sandra "Sandy" Kay Chelsea, Michigan Age 71, went to be with her Lord on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at her home. She was born July 21, 1945 in Port Huron, Michigan, the daughter of William Ansel & Vivian Marguerite (Cameron) Rankin. Sandy graduated from Western High School Class of '63, the first class in the new high school. She went to Medical Assistant School in Detroit and McHenry County College in Illinois. Sandy worked as a Social Services Secretary at Woodstock Children's Home in Illinois. She then graduated from National Christian Counselors Association with a degree as a Pastoral Counselor. She had an internship at the Church of God in Marshall and in Albion. Sandy was a volunteer Chaplain at Foote (Allegiance) Hospital and did pastoral care for 12 years with Hospice of Jackson. She worked at craft shows for 30 years. Sandy enjoyed collecting angels and dolls, she has over 1,000 porcelain dolls. On September 8, 1979, she married William Henry Altenberndt, in Spring Arbor, MI, at Kings Chapel where they were both members, and he survives. Sandy was a mommy to "Tinker Bell" and "Miss Emily", her two cocker spaniels . She is survived by three siblings, William (Marilyn) Rankin of Mesick, Carol (Jim) Shanyna of Caro, MI, and Don (Bonnie) Rankin of Irons, MI. Funeral services will be held Friday, March 3, 1:00 pm at Cole Funeral Chapel in Chelsea, with Rev. Ann Salyer & Pastor Rick Webb officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery Chelsea. The family will receive friends Thursday 4-8 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Youth Haven or Great Lakes Caring Hospice.
