Photojournalist James Foley is dead at 40, according to multiple news reports. Foley was kidnapped in November 2012 while covering the Syrian civil war for The Global Post, and on August 19, 2014 a video was posted online that purported to show his execution by the militant group ISIS.

James was a great man who I'll never forget. I met him in SDSU when he gave a lecture about his risky travel to Libya when the people there were uprising against Qaddafi the tyrant. He cared for others and he was brave indeed. His passion was to help people and to make their voices heard. We will never forget you, brother James!
