Cathy TILLITSON Obituary

TILLITSON, Mrs. Cathy J. Portage, MI Died Friday evening July 31, 2015 in Ann Arbor, Michigan a daughter of Donald and Sadie (Opich) Hoag. She had been a lifelong Kalamazoo area resident and was employed with Bronson Hospital for 38 years before retiring. Cathy was preceded in death by her parents. On January 24, 1969, she was united in marriage to David M. Tillitson who survives. Also surviving, 2 daughters, Leslie (Frank) Fleck of Kalamazoo and Heather (Steve) Waller of Ft. Atkinson, WI; 5 grandchildren; a brother, Doran (Pat) Hoag of Cadillac, MI; a sister-in-law, Karen (Allen) Truitt of Salisbury, MD; and several nieces and nephews. Private services and burial will be held at a later date. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be directed to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the Kalamazoo Gospel Mission. I am so sad to hear of the passing of Cathy. I am blessed to have been her hairdresser for over 20 years. I met her when she was working at Bronson, saw the joy in her when her daughters were married and when each grandchild was born. Even though she has not felt well in the past few years, her eyes always lit up when she spoke of her grandchildren. I know she loved all of her family (dogs included) very much and I believe that was much of what kept her going. I will so miss our monthly visits, she was a very special friend/client to me. Much love and peace to Dave, Leslie, Heather and all of the grandchildren...she will always be that angel watching over you...

Cathy and I saw each other several years after graduating from LHS. I left the Kalamazoo area for several years then re-connected with her 5 1/2 years ago. I invited her to join me for a "girl's night out" and we attended an event sponsored by ISAAC in Kalamazoo. I remember meeting Steve Barber (another classmate) that was involved in the event planning. We had a great time sitting with Steve & catching up on happenings since LHS graduation. We had a wonderful time sharing an re-connecting after so many years. One thing that I remember is Cathy's love for David and the pride she shared about her family. She will be one of several classmates that will be remembered during our upcoming 50th class reunion. Her friendship will always be remembered!

Cathy and I were friends since 7th grade and kept in touch over the years. I was glad we got to spend some time together 3 years ago in Portage. I will really miss her --- she was such a nice person.

So sorry to hear of your wife passing. What a joy to know that she is with the Lord now and all suffering and pain are gone. Even though we have not seen each other in a very long time, your loss is greatly felt. Family ties are still very strong here in Texas.
