Cheryl Pompey Obituary

Pompey, Cheryl 7/12/1953 - 5/15/2015 Lawrence Cheryl D. (Anderson) Pompey, 61, of Lawrence, passed away on Friday, May 15, 2015 at Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo, following a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on July 12, 1953 in Benton Harbor to the late Francis E. and Betty Ann (Howarth) Anderson. After graduating from Comstock High School, she worked for Avion Coach in Benton Harbor and took great pride seeing the R.V.'s she helped to build drive down the road. Cheryl pursued a degree in nursing and became a licensed practical nurse. She worked for many years at Meadow Wood Nursing Home, until her health would not allow. On August 9, 1986 Cheryl married Keith D. Pompey in Hartford. She was an active member of Red Arrow General Baptist Church. She loved traveling, especially to their timeshare in Branson, Missouri and throughout the Midwest. She also cherished her dogs Tess and Sheba. Cheryl fought cancer very aggressively with her family, friends and her church at her side throughout the entire journey. Her family will be eternally grateful for all of those who sent cards and encouraged Cheryl, especially Kim (Gary) Rochefort of Dowagiac. She is preceded in death by her parents, a step-father Art Nowell a step-son Craig Pompey, two brothers Robert and Frank Anderson and a brother-in-law Ronnie Clark. Cheryl is survived by her husband Keith Pompey of Lawrence, a step-son Kenneth Pompey of Hartford, her grandchildren; Keith, Sabrina, Samantha, Paul, Jennifer and Tabitha, a sister Linda Clark of Kalamazoo, a brother Steven Anderson of Clearwater, a step-sister Artis Nowell of Arizona, two nephews Jeffrey (Valerie) Finlay and Troy (Ashley) Kindle and two nieces Rebecca (Barry) Quinones and Amber Anderson. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 23, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. with a time of visitation one hour prior at Red Arrow General Baptist Church, 3176 Red Arrow Highway, Benton Harbor, Michigan 49022. Memorial contributions may be made in Cheryl's memory to the Red Arrow General Baptist Church- in care of the vacation bible school fund. My deepest condolences to all whose lives Cheryl brightened. She was a great friend to so many at Comstock High School, including me. She helped us all learn to be better people and lead by example. RIP, Cheryl.

Sorry to hear of Cheryl's passing. She was such a sweetheart in school, fond memories of her when she was a Varsity Chearleader when I played JV Basketball. She was always very friendly & kind to me.
