Francis Morkan Obituary
Rev. Brother Francis Patrick Morkan C.F.C. passed away on October 28, 2015. Brother Morkan was born on September 17, 1928 in New York, the son of Patrick and Mary Quinn Morkan. He is a graduate of Holy Name of Jesus grammar school, Power Memorial High School, Manhattan College where he graduated with a BBA in Business and NY University graduating with his MA in Business. Brother Morkan entered the congregation on June 29, 1949 and took his final vows on June 27, 1957. His ministry took him to many positions including Rice High School in New York City where he was a faculty member and principal, Holy Cross School, Newfoundland, All Hallows, Bronx, NY as Superior , Santa Maria Novitiate as Novice Master, Iona Prep, Power Memorial Academy, Eastern American Province as Consultor, Notre Dame Bishop Gibbons Community, Schenectady, NY, Christian Brothers West Side Community in New York City, St. Joseph's Residence Community in New Rochelle, NY and his final residence at Cabrini of Westchester in Dobbs Ferry, NY. Br. Morkan is predeceased by his parents and three sisters Eleanor, Gloria and Marion as well as by his brother Patrick. A wake will be held at St. Joseph's Residence, 30 Montgomery Circle, New Rochelle, NY on Wednesday from 2 PM to 4 PM and 7 PM to 9 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Family Church, Mayflower Ave., New Rochelle, NY on Thursday at 9:30 AM. Internment to follow at Christian Brothers Cemetery in West Park, NY. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to St. Joseph's Residence.

Brother Pat Morkan was my Novice Master in West Park, NY 1978. Pat was a gentle patient, kind and great and holy man. Eventually I was asked to be Principal of a struggling school upstate New York at the age of 32. When I was evaluating my decision on whether or not to accept the position it was Pat who told me " absolutely you should accept because that school needs you and you will turn it around." I did accept and sure enough after 6 years of hard work the school did turn around. Pat was a great counselor and reader of people. Pat, your name will be unforgotten as your students and those you coached and those you guided as Novices will live your legacy in a variety of different ways.

Bro. Patrick Morkan was my principal at Rice High as well as my superior when we lived together at All Hallows High School. he was well loved by his students and by his fellow brothers. He will be missed by many.

The Manhattan College alumni community shares the grief, and is now praying for our fellow alumni and the family at this time. The Alumni Office has been informed. As well as the Jasper Jottings community that I personally can reach. We are all a little poorer now. "No man is an island, entire of itself ... any mans death diminishes me".
