Lillie Dailey Obituary

Dailey, Lillie Eleanor,

90, died peacefully on November 16, 2015 at Baptist East Hospital Palliative Care. Lillie was born November 30, 1924 to the late Frank A. and Lillie Schamberger Lesko in Elizabeth, New Jersey. She was a retired registered nurse that graduated from Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing in Newark, New Jersey. She worked for 13 years as a psychiatric nurse at Our Lady of Peace Hospital and most recently with Hosparus for 10 years, bringing comfort to patients facing the ends of their lives.

She was a member of Springdale Presbyerian Church and a member of the church choir, the woman's circles and the social dining group. Her ready smile and enthusiasm endeared her to everyone.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years John (Jack) Dailey, and her great-grandchild Piper McHone.

She is survived by her "tribe" of four children, sons John J. (Debbie), Frank N. (Annie), James E. (Mary Ellen), and daughter Ellie McHone (Reg), 9 grandchildren Jennifer Barkevich, Andrew Dailey M.D., Jaimie Hargrave, Emily Browning, Sherri Dailey, Sarah Miller, Sean McHone, Stephanie McHone Robinett and Patrick Dailey and 22 great-grandchildren.

Lillie's greatest pleasure was her family and always said, "Family is the most important thing".

Services to celebrate Lillie's life will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in the chapel of Arch L. Heady & Son, 7410 Westport Road, with interment to follow at Cave Hill. Visitation for family and friends will be held 2-8 p.m. Wednesday.

Expressions of sympathy are requested to Hosparus of Louisville.

Lillie had the brightest smile and the kindest disposition. She and I sang together in the choir at Springdale Presbyterian and I'll always treasure those Sunday mornings. My thoughts and prayers go out to her family members.

What a loss to our church. Lillie was a willing worker and always had a smile on her face. She will be missed at circle and in the many other church groups and activities she supported.

Our sincere sympathy goes to her entire family and friends. She was a very special person and loved by all.

Remembering Lillie will always brings a smile to my face. She was a delightful lady, kind and loving. She was always gracious and welcoming when I visited her and Jack. She never tired of talking about her wonderful children and grandchildren. I will always remember her and Peg Sealy in their choir robes at Springdale. Both lovely ladies, gone too soon. Rosemary Speaker Terstegge, former parish nurse at Springdale Presbyterian Church.

God saw you getting tired and a cure was not to be, So he put His arms around you and whispered "Come to Me". With tearful eyes we watched you, and saw you pass away. Although we loved you dearly, we could not make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands at rest, God broke our hearts to prove to us, He only takes the best.

Dearest Lil,
Rest in peace in God's loving arms for eternity. With love, Annie (your daughter, not by birth, but by heart)

So sorry for your loss. I will always remember how sweet aunt Lil was, always smiling. My heart goes out to you all, no matter how old you are it is so hard to lose your best friend, the woman who brought you into the world, loved and nurtured you, and was always interested in your life. She will always be with you, just in a different way, each thought and memory will keep her with you. May God's love and peace help you through your grief.

I will always remember Jack and Lillie. One of my favorite memories was in the St. Patrick's Day Parade in Lexington. She wore a tee-shirt which said IBM (Irish by Marriage). She was a person with a kind heart and a friend to all.

The best way to honor someone who is not with us anymore is to continue living life and keeping their memory alive in your heart and in your soulI know that no words can help ease the pain you must be feeling right now, but please know you are all in my thoughts and in my prayers. May you find comfort knowing she is now an Angel in Heaven watching over you. Sincerely with Love, Carmen DePalma
