It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Joel "Todd" Rank. Dad lost his heroic battle with cancer on the evening of November 18, 2014, at Nathan Adelson Hospice in Las Vegas, Nevada.

He was born in Marshfield, Wisconsin and resided in the area until 2012. At the time of his passing he lived in North Las Vegas, Nevada. Todd was a Vietnam Veteran and served in the Army from 1969 to 1971. He was retired but still enjoyed working on home improvement projects. Prior to his retirement he worked in the construction and manufacturing industries.

Dad loved nature immensely and enjoyed fishing, camping and hiking. He always had a story and loved sharing them with those around him. Dad was always quick to engage in conversation with strangers, striking up conversation with anyone who walked by, or he encountered in his day. In his last years he came to know peace, and had a better understanding of himself as a man and a father. He opened his heart and expressed his feelings to those around him, truly becoming the man he was always meant to be. He loved going for walks and spending hours outside just taking in the beauty around him.

Dad was an amazing person. He was incredibly thoughtful and easy to talk to. There are no words to express the great loss we are feeling but we do take comfort in the thought that dad no longer has to suffer with his pain. Thank you, dad, for letting us get to know you as adults. You have greatly enriched our lives with your stories, laughter and love.

Dad is preceded in death by his father, Leonard and mother, Jean. He is survived by brothers, Jeffery (Susanne) Rank and Ronald Rank; children, Brenda (Timothy) Kalkofen and Bryan (McKenzi) Rank; and grandchildren, Nicole Kalkofen, Nathaniel Kalkofen, and Kamryn Rank.

Dad's wishes were to donate his body to Science in the hopes that others could benefit. A memorial service is planned for Summer 2015 in Wisconsin.
