Annette I'm so sorry for you loss.

March 1, 2015

Joe was a very caring and thoughtful young man. I met Joe when he was a firefighter for the Laurys Station Fire Company through my son, Jody Smith, and his girlfriend (now fiance) Keri Adams.

Joe helped Jody and Keri when they moved into their apartment and he also helped them set up Jody's computer stand at the Cementon fair. Joe also brought plenty of food and drinks and stayed with Jody and Keri during the entire fair event helping them with the stand. I remember watching the fireworks with Joe that evening and thinking what a nice young man he is. He had such a pleasant smile and always offered help when it was needed.

Jody still has pictures of Joe on his cell phone with him and Keri when they used to hang out together.

Joe has now moved on in life's journey to be with the Lord and I am sure he is helping in some way with a big smile on his face.

We were blessed to know you Joe.

Our prayers are with your mom and dad at this time.

Love,
Jody, Keri, and Mrs. Tandy Smith

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Span,
My heart is broken for you, your extended family, and all of Joey's friends! I can't begin to express how sad I am to hear of Joey's passing. He was such a kind, considerate, and sweet little boy; it was truly my honor to be his principal at Ironton Elementary School. Joey always had a huge smile on his face, and was always willing to help his teachers and classmates in any way that he could. His enthusiasm was contagious! I loved running into him as he grew into a wonderful young man - hearing about his accomplishments in Scouts and how he was involved with the younger troops. The last time I saw him, he seemed so happy to be involved in his work at the PA Technical College. Please know that I send my love and prayers to all of you. I am so, so sorry!

Annette and Joel, we are so sorry for your loss. Joey was a wonderful young man you both should be so proud. Troop 144 is going to be at a loss without him but he will always be with the troop in someway like helping the younger scout tie a knot to the older boy learning how to become an eagle scout. Some how he will live on in all of us that knew him. He is now an angel looking down on us until someday we meet him in heaven and I'm sure he will be there welcoming us like he always did and like he did when Ernie became scoutmaster.RIP! Joey
