Udo STUNDNER Obituary

Published by Monteal Gazette on Aug. 24, 2013.
STUNDNER, Udo
1942 - 2013
Passed away in the early hours of August 20, 2013, his beloved wife Anne at his side, at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal. Udo was 70. He leaves his cherished children Antoine and Brigitte and his in-laws, nieces and nephews of the Bigaouette, Bergeron, Chéron and Roy families. He will be remembered by numerous friends of the Austrian community in Canada and colleagues from banking and portfolio management. Only son of Anton and Erda Liebetegger, Udo was born in Salzburg and left his mountains to explore the new world at the time of Expo 67. He remained to build a career and found a family with Anne. He spent many years at the Swiss Bank Corporation and Crédit Suisse, holding important positions in Montreal, Toronto and Calgary before devoting his considerable talents to portfolio management at Gestion Pfiffner Inc. where clients sought out his sage advice. Udo was an avid sportsman with a passion for winter sports. He loved the mountains, rivers and forests of his adopted homeland and had many canoe and biking adventures to his credit. He relished life's simple pleasures with family and his many friends, colleagues and clients. He was ever mindful of those in need and became an active member of the Rotary Club. He was devoted to the Austrian community in Montreal. His professional activities included being a director of the Swiss-Canadian Chamber of commerce. The family wishes to thank the caring medical and nursing staff of the intensive care cardiac unit of the Royal Victoria and Montreal General Hospitals. The family will celebrate Udo's life during a private reunion followed by a religious service at the Mount Royal Cemetery. Udo wished that a more festive event be held for friends, colleagues and clients at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations maybe made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Dear Anne,

I am a latecomer in Udo's life.
He took charge of me and my portfolio as if I were my father. He became a trusted advisor.
I looked forward to our yearly luncheon. He was kind, clearly explained my concerns and was good company.

My sincere condolences of your and your family's loss.

In sympathy,

I met Udo in about 1978 and we have been in contact ever since. I was proud to introduce him to Wednesday Night and I know that he enjoyed his attendance there every time.
Udo had a deep and thorough knowledge of the stock market and his contribution to the discussions about it were highly educational.
I will miss his sense of humour and the twinkle in his eyes when he spoke about world politics and the economy.

Dear Anne my condolences to you and your family. I knew Udo from the Rotary club, and later from the Austrian Ball. He was a very interesting person and I loved his stories about how he came over to Canada on a boat from Europe as a young man with very little in his pocket and created a new life here.

Anne, I don't know where you are to call or write you..... We here are so very sad for you and Antoine and Brigitte. Udo is a lovely man who will remain in our hearts as the sweet and adored daddy who lived next door on Lonsdale Rd.

Dear Anne,
Please share with Antoine and Brigitte our deepest sympathies. He was a valued member of our Wednesday Night family. We, along with his many friends and admirers, cherished his wisdom, perceptive commentary and wit. He was truly a gentle man and a gentleman. We share in your sense of loss and hope that your many happy memories will sustain you through this very sad period.
With affection,

Dear Anne, I share your feelings at this hard time of loss and mourning. I wish for you and the family the fortitude and serenity needed to accept this great loss. May Udo rest in peace, and you bear the loss bravely.

It was with great sadness that I read about Udo's passing. I knew him well over 40 years ago and participated in many camping-canoe trips with a group of stalwart outdoorsmen. He was a kind, funny and generous person who made great goulash. I met Anne and Antoine when Antoine was a baby so it has been a long time. My sincere condolences to the entire family. Udo is a person who will be greatly missed. Nicole Guitton

I had the honour of knowing Udo for the last 14 years. I came to Montreal's, Rotary once a year to review capital markets and glimpse into the future.I looked forward to Udo's analysis and skillfully directed questions. We shared stimulating conversations about the minutiae of economic statistical analysis to the breadth of global money flows. These and much more will be missed. To his friends and family my warmest thoughts are with you.
