Dear Gaby, Arieilla and family - Please accept my heartfelt condolences and sympathy on the loss of such a unique light. I chanced on the news of his passing upon finding the Quill and Quire article about his stupendous collection, now safely housed at the U. of Calgary. It was a shock to read "he was".
Then I found this page.
I can't put into words how much Irving [Layton] and I appreciated his purity of purpose, mind, and soul. I cherish the memory of all us together at your home .kasha and bowsor his coming over with a big bag of carrots from his garden in exchange for signatures in a book or two. His enthusiasm was infections, as was his smile.
The help he gave Irving during a stressful time, filling the Vanier Library photocopy machine, fixing the jams, supplying change, as Irving photocopied our samizdats, helped neutralize the acidic battle-mode we were in, reminding us that the world still contained beautiful, kind, generous souls.
Marvin Orbach was one such soul. He will be missed.

I was shocked and saddened to read of Marvin's passing. He was a welcoming and learned presence at the Vanier Library reference desk, an excellent librarian, lover and collector of poetry, and friend. I remember with admiration his interviews with Montreal poets, published in the Loyola News and perhaps elsewhere. Though I am unable to attend services on the 11th, I send my sincere sympathy to his family: they have much to be proud of in celebrating Marvin's life
