Charles Lightfoote Obituary

CHARLES Richard Lightfoote CANANDAIGUA/GORHAM - Charles Richard "Dick" Lightfoote, 95, died on Monday, Oct. 24, 2016. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 12, at 2 p.m. at First Congregational Church in Canandaigua. Burial will be in Gorham Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Light Hill Comfort Care Home, 5160 Parrish St. Ext., Canandaigua, NY 14424; F.F. Thompson Foundation, for M.M. Ewing CCC Living Memorial Fund, 350 Parrish St., Canandaigua, NY 14424; Reed Corners Federated Church, 4030 Route 247, Canandaigua, NY 14424; or First Congregational Church, 58 N. Main St., Canandaigua, NY 14424. Dick was born in Geneva and was the son of Lynn and Dorothy Kreppeneck Lightfoote. He graduated from Geneva High School in 1938 and married Ruth Goodwin in 1942. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Dick worked with his father at Lightfoote's Garage in Geneva for several years. He retired from Gleason Works in Rochester in 1982. Dick attended First Congregational Church in Canandaigua and previously attended the Reed Corners Federated Church. He and his wife Ruth enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and spending winters in Florida. After retirement he discovered landscape oil painting and has left his family a legacy of beautiful art. Dick was an avid reader and baseball fan and produced wonderful vegetable gardens. He and Ruth enjoyed attending their grandchildren’s sports and school activities and were known by the kids' teammates and friends as Grandma and Grandpa Lightfoote. Dick is survived by his son, Charles D. (Nancy) Lightfoote; daughter, Marilyn (Donald) DeSmith; four grandchildren, Scott (Amanda) Lightfoote, Rachel (Adam) Rogers, Matthew (Michele) DeSmith and Suzanne (Jeremy) Kierst; six great-grandchildren, Morley and Finn Rogers, Morgan and Madelyn DeSmith and Griffin and Austin Kierst; cousins, Shirley DeCann and Rodney Frarey; and several nieces and nephews. Dick was predeceased by his wife, Ruth in 2012; and brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Eleanor Lightfoote. Dear Friends - please accept my heartfelt condolences at this bittersweet time. Dick was the perfect gentleman - always thinking of others, and always gracious. I have many fond memories of times spent with Dick and Ruth, and am grateful they once again are reunited. May the love of family and friends sustain you, and may you always give thanks for Dick's presence in your lives. He will be long remembered by those who were privileged to know him.
