I truly miss our phone conversations on my driving to or from Lansing. Your encouragement and sensible advice, your trying to plan a cure for Joey (who served as your father figure and my Big Brother) and your laugh which could brighten anyone's day. You and Maureen knew me well and still supported me. Thanks for always being there and hope you have welcomed Peggy safely to home.

Once again it is August and the summer sunshine is fading away. I actually remembered you yesterday as I finally deleted old private Facebook messages from and to you. Thought it was time to do so. But I have bot deleted any old memories - they are just as strong as those long ago days when your physical smile brightened the lives of many.
See you later... Rev. Bill McDonald

Looks like this may be the final farewell to you David - but the heart will retain memories and friendship and love well beyond this limited space of internet where your photo and name appear.
WE still all love you .... nothing else will change that. Good bye once again.

To All,
Am so sorry for your loss. I've been s subscriber to The Great Lakes Pilot for a number of years. When My magazine would come in the mail the first thing I'd do is mark the page and save it,the best, for last. I could tell David really loved his family. I appriciated his stories and Native American traditions and folk lore he shared with us all. A bout 3-4 months ago He wrote an artical about Sassifras tea and that it could still be purchased in ground form, not liquid found in a bottle. As a young girl my Mother would by the tea in leaf form. I was going to write and ask where I could find or purchase the leaves. Time slipped by and I forgot to write and ask where to find the leaves.
Any way I want your family to know that I pray God will give you strength and help get you through your time of loss.
Some how we never forget people we love and they are always in our thoughts and hearts for ever.
Sincerely, Maggie Blackford

A man, whom few, if any, who ever meet him will forget. He was special in a really good way - compassionate, loving, wise, humorous, spiritual, and always a real patriot! But he was also a "best friend" to many people.
David was the real deal - a true one of a kind guy! He will always remain within my memories - until I see him again!

I was shocked and saddened to hear this news. He was a neighbor over on Laketon when we were kids and then a neighbor to my mom when he and his family lived on Lilac St. Nice guy with a quiet voice and an impish smile. I'm sure he will be missed by many. Our thoughts are with Maureen and his children at this time.

Growing up in a southern family, a cousin means so much more than just a cousin. We were together for most holidays growing up and as a little girl I can't remember David not being by my side, either at our house or me at their's. As we grew older, communication by phone was what kept us as friends. Distressed over his brother's illness, distressed over the accidents the kids had and his trooper wife's (Maureen)illness at one time. He always shared an encouraging word for me. God promises many blessings for those who suffer and I know he is going to shower them upon David in his heavenly mansion. May his strength and faith be shared by the family.

So sorry to hear about Dave. I talked to him in 2012 at the Cancer Center in Muskegon when I took my sister there for an appt. Glad I was able to see him and say hello. I remember in school there was another Dave Davis so when the principal called one of them to the office the principal would add the middle initial in there so they knew which one was in trouble. It usually was the "other" Dave Davis though.
May your precious memories forever keep Dave close.
