Mary Klesner Obituary

KLESNER, D.O., DR. MARY L. Dr. Mary Louise Klesner, D.O., 95, passed away Sunday evening, July 20, 2014. Born in Cadillac, MI on September 21, 1918 to Louis Carl and Helen (Neahr) Klesner, she attended East Grand Rapids High School, received her B.A. degree from Calvin College in 1940, a Doctor of Osteopathy degree from DesMoines Still College of Osteopathy in 1943, and an Internal Medicine specialty from Muskegon Osteopathic Hospital in 1946. She operated a private medical practice in Iowa before moving to Muskegon, specializing in obstetrics, then changing to general practice until retiring. While at Calvin she began a friendship with Celia Winters which lasted until Celia's death. They were members of the former Immanuel Christian Reformed Church where Dr. Mary was an organist, and the two of them sent many cards and notes of encouragement to fellow members and friends. Dr. Mary was a member of Bethany Christian Reformed Church and its Ladies Fellowship. She enjoyed the special spiritual guidance and the support of fellow members and clergy. Dr. Mary was a proud third generation member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She is survived by a sister, Margaret "Peg" Klesner of W. Vancouver, B.C., Canada. Dr. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, and longtime friend and companion, Celia Winters. Dr. Mary was always interested in nature, and loved to read and study. She will be remembered for her humility and for being a quiet giver. VISITATION for Dr. Mary Klesner will be held 1-2 PM Thursday, July 24, 2014 at Bethany Christian Reformed Church followed by a FUNERAL SERVICE AND CELEBRATION OF HER LIFE at 2 PM with Rev. David Sieplinga officiating, and interment in Maple Hill Cemetery in Cadillac. I was Dr. Mary's first baby that she delivered. She was a friend to my mother, Loretta Hohenmauer, and she became my friend also. The Christmas card I sent to her was returned and I just learned of her passing. I will remember her for her faithfulness in writing to me, her love of our Lord, and her many poems at Easter and Thanksgiving.

Dr Mary was a fine physician and a valued colleague. I always enjoyed seeing her in the hospital and being priviledged to consult on her patients.
