James Gilmore Obituary

COLUMBUS — James A. "Jim" Gilmore Sr., 65, of Columbus, and formerly of Gallipolis, died Sunday, Jan. 4, 2015, at his residence.

Born April 11, 1949, in Gallipolis, he was the son of the late George Y. and Esther B. Lewis Gilmore.

Jim was nurtured and baptized as a young man at Paint Creek Regular Baptist Church in Gallipolis. He graduated from Gallia Academy High School, where he excelled in athletics and after graduation received a football scholarship to Ohio Northern University. In 2006, he was honored to be inducted into the Gallia Academy High School Hall of Fame. Jim was a U.S. Army veteran and worked for many years at the Phillip Sporn Power Plant.

Jim loved the outdoors. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and he shared these passions with his children, extended family and his friends. He was a lifelong Ohio State Buckeyes fan.

He is survived by children Christopher (Hollie) Howell, James (Kayla) Gilmore Jr., and Vickie (Darnell) Floyd; his fiancée Kathy Ware; 12 grandchildren; brothers George (Judie), John (Lydia), Andrew, Daniel (Jill) and Norman Gilmore; sister Andrea (William) Donaldson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and caring friends.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 12, 2015, at Paint Creek Baptist Church, 833 Third Ave., Gallipolis, with the Rev. Harry Scott. Burial will follow in Pine Street Cemetery. Friends may call the church on Monday from noon until the time of service. Military funeral honors will be presented at the cemetery by the Gallia County Veterans Funeral Detail.

I am truly sadden to learn of Jimmy's passing. I remember to good days of playing basketball, football and track with Jimmy. His competitive nature and commraderie from those days is a bright memory. My sympathies to the Gilmore family.
