GREENSBORO — David Ford Gamble, 57, of Greensboro, NC died on January 16, 2013. He was born on May 29, 1955 in Kingstree, SC to Eunice and JP Gamble. David was a graduate of Clemson University and was employed as a pilot by LabCorp, Inc. He is survived by his wife, Cynthia Cranford Gamble, sons Stuart Ford Gamble of Vero Beach, FL, Andrew William Gamble, of Charlotte, NC and Christopher Lee Gamble of Ft. Campbell, KY. His parents, Eunice and JP Gamble of Lane, SC, Brothers, Jay (Jane) Gamble of Sunapee, NH, Larry (Edith) Gamble of Franklin, WI and Catherine Gamble of Lane, SC and numerous nieces and nephews.
David loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter, fisherman and gardener. His favorite times were spent with his family and friends. He loved flying, grilling on the deck, participating in Revolutionary war re-enactment with his family, pulling for the Denver Broncos, and fishing at the beach. He was a volunteer for CAP for many years as a search and rescue pilot and was a devoted father and husband, who never met a stranger. He was always concerned about taking care of others, putting the needs of others before himself.
A service of celebration of his life will be held at Centenary United Methodist Church on Sunday, January 20 at 3 p.m. The family will receive friends at the Gamble home after the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the mission fund at Centenary United Methodist Church or to Greeleyville United Methodist Church in Greeleyville, SC.

I just heard the news about David & words escape me right now. I fell honored to have had David as an influence early on in the Civil Air Patrol. He was always putting others first and was true hero to the end.
I kept the picture of the first time I got to fly an airplane, of course it was David who was sitting beside me.

Take comfort in knowing that now you have a special guardian angel to watch over you.
So sorry for your loss, may the Lord be with you during this time of sorrow.
"And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God's love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow--not even the powers of hell can separate us from God's love." - Romans 8:38

I didn't know your dad personally, but just had to say this... I have never heard of a more respected pilot around this area. I have a few friends who flew with him many times and they have all been saying how he was one of the safest, most knowledgeable, selfless, and all around great pilots with a true passion for aviation. Sounds like this carried through even in what had to be a catastrophic mechanical failure. Hero no doubt.
So sorry for your loss.

We met David on our back porch the day after moving in to our house . With a slight grin and that distinct SC low country drawl, he stuck his hand out and said,"I'm David Gamble and this is my wife Cindy,we're your next door neighbors, welcome to the neighborhood. We've brought you some tomatoes and peppers from our garden". He then proceeded to tell us every minute detail of how those tomatoes and peppers were grown :) We quickly realized what great friends and neighbors we had moved next to in David and Cindy and their 3 boys. David will be greatly missed but never forgotten. RIP my friend

As I heard the news identifying the pilot of the plane crash in Burlington, I thought surely this cannot be the same David Gamble I knew years ago in high school in Manning, SC. How shocking and heart-breaking to learn of such an untimely death. I have fond memories of a sweet boy with an endearing smile and an easy-going attitude. Always ready for the week-end and a trip to Pawley's Island for surfing. The write-up shares what a fine man he became and I regret I did not know him as an adult. My thoughts and prayers are with you during this time.

Dear Cindy and family, I learned yesterday of your loss. I went to the Christian Academy with David in the 70's. I was an import from Sumter after school integration began. David was one of the first people I met when I started there as a 9th grader. Being totally overwhelmed at a new school, David made special efforts to welcome all of the newcomers from Sumter and Greeleyville which made the transition much easier. David ALWAYS had kind words and a smile for us. I was happy to see "He was always concerned about taking care of others, putting the needs of others before himself" in the write-up. It was just so 'David'. The picture here depicts exactly how I remember David.. always kind, always with a smile. :-) I am so very sorry for your loss, he was much too young.. but, our God knows best. Treasure all of your favorite memories and feel blessed to have been a part of this special man's life. I know I will. God's blessings to you all each and every day! With kindest and special regards, Janice Nesbitt Lathan, Class of 1974.
