Dr. Hector Rocco, 84 of Delray Beach, FL formerly of Englewood, NJ entered into eternal rest on October 28, 2015. Born in Newark, NJ, Dr. Giancarlo was a graduate of Manhattan College, BS 1953, University of Padua, MD 1957, served his internship at the Jersey City Medical Center, and served his residency in General Surgery and Otolaryngology at New York Eye & Ear. He was a member of the American College of Surgeons, the American Board of Otolaryngology and the American Head and Neck Society. In 1954, Dr. Giancarlo was one of six survivors of an Air Italia flight from Rome to New York which crashed upon decent to New York's Idlewild Airport. As a physician, Dr. Giancarlo was the recipient of numerous awards and distinctions and he received national attention for his pioneering surgical procedures in voice-box reconstruction. Dr. Giancarlo was the Chief of Surgery at New York Eye & Ear and had associations, department authority and/or professorships with several area hospitals. Dr. Giancarlo was also co-founder of the Allandale Community for Senior Living, a facility that has grown to over 300 beds and was one of the first senior homes in New Jersey to offer a continuum of care for its residents. In retirement, Dr. Giancarlo enjoyed collecting, woodworking and the company of his family. He is survived by his loving family; son Charles Henry (Diane) and their three children, Gianna, Marielle and Andrew, son James Christopher (Regina) and their three children, Emma, Luke and Henry, son Michael Damian (Melissa) and their two children, Isabella and Christian and his son Timothy Paul (Sandra) and their two children, Giovanna and Julian. A visitation will be held on Wednesday November 4th from 7-9 PM and on Thursday November 5th from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the C.C. Van Emburgh Funeral Home 306 East Ridgewood Ave. Ridgewood. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday November 6th at 10 AM at the Sacred Heart Church 102 Park Street in Haworth. Entombment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in N. Arlington. The family has expressed their wish that gestures of sympathy in lieu of flowers be made by charitable donations to the "Johns Hopkins University", c/o Fund for Johns Hopkins Medicine, 550 North Broadway, 7th Floor, Baltimore MD, 21205 with a note indicating the donation is in memory of Dr. Hector Giancarlo to benefit the research of Dr. Daniel Drachman in the Department of Neurology.
