I think about Dr. Berish often. He was a great doctor and wonderful human being. He was there for my children from the moment they were born until they went to college. He will be in our hearts forever.

We all loved Dr. Berish. I first met him when he was giving a course at White Plains Hospital for expecting parents. I knew right then I wanted him to be our pediatrician. My two girls went to him until they were 18. Always so kind. I too was just thinking about him and did a search and sad to find out this news. RIP Dr. Berish.

I posted this 4yrs ago, but I left in some typos. This is the edited version:
I am deeply saddened by this news. Dr Andy was my doctor growing up. I was born with a physical disability. From the very beginning, Dr Andy was amazing to my mom and my family. My thoughts go out to his family.

Unfortunately I just found out about Dr. Andy because my son who was his patient (now 32) looked him up. I wish I had known earlier. He was a very special person and great doctor. I still remember many of the things he used to say in regard to the care of my children. I don't know if he had returned from California because the last time we spoke he was still there. He will be missed and will always be in my heart. I know that it's a long time from when this obituary was posted, but If Adam and Josh can still read this I would like to express my condolences.

Adam, Josh, Matt & Jack,
I found this by accident today when I was looking for dads obituary, and just thought i'd drop a line letting you know how much I miss your pop. He was so good to me, and at times, I felt like he was the only one I could turn to in LA when I was having trouble. Can't believe it's been a year since he passed. I guess the proverbial "silver lining" here would be picking up 2 nephews. Can't wait to meet those guys. He loves you all so much, and let everyone know it. Stay in touch, and have a happy holiday season.

Adam and Josh,
My heart is heavy right now as I just found out about the passing of Dr.Andy. I met him in 2002 however, he treated me like a longtime friend. He knew I liked the Ezra Keats pictures in his office before he moved, he gave them to me. I remember saying: "Dr. Andy are you sure you want to give these pictures away because I think they will be worth alot of money one day". He said, "well, I guess you will have alot of money one day". Your dad was such a great man. It was truly an honor and a pleasure knowing him.

I could not believe it when I came upon Dr. Andy's obituary when I decided to try searching for him. It is the last thing I would of wanted to find. Dr. Andy was an amazing doctor, always forthright and compassionate. He took care of me into my college years, always cracking a joke or distracting me when giving an injection. He will be truly missed, my heart goes out to his family

As Dana F from Yonkers said just a week ago, I too have been thinking about Dr. Berish. I frequently do--but last week my sons (ages 14, 11 and 7) and I were just again talking about Dr. Berish and I decided to go ahead and give him a call. He promised to keep his cell phone number when he moved to California so his former patients could stay in touch with him--that is the way Dr. Berish was--always thinking of his patients.
Dr. Berish was my pediatrician. I'm now 43, but when I was pregnant with my first child and looking for a pediatrician my father said, "See if you can find Dr. Berish." I did and I am forever grateful.
I agree with so many others. How many people have fond memories of going to the doctor? The answer is anyone who was lucky enough to be a patient/friend of Dr. Berish. He always told me to call him "Andy" but to me he was Dr. Berish.
I cried in his office back in August 2004 because it was our last visit with him before he went to LA. I knew that Dr. Berish could never be replaced. He was a pillar in my life and I knew I was losing him. I carefully took notes on when my toddler's next vaccination was due...my last piece of trusted advice from Dr. Berish.
I remember choking back the tears to let him know that whatever his goal was when he became a doctor all those many years ago he met and far exceeded. He was the best.
He was a one-in-a-lifetime person and had the same magnetic effect on everyone -- proven by how many of us continued thinking about him--all wishing him the very best.
I last spoke with him around November 2007 or so. It sounded like he was heading back to New York to his family, whom he loved so much. I am so sorry I didn't get to see him even one more time for a classic Dr. Berish story that made you laugh, or to get one more piece of advice that you knew you could bank on.
To Adam and Alissa, Josh and Liz, and grandsons Matthew and Jack, our very deepest sympathies. I can only imagine the void in your life. We all know your father was one of the best and I hope that brings some comfort.
Sincerely
Celeste & Patrick Hughes, Crestwood/Yonkers NY
PS: Thank you to the family who is keeping this Guest Book open. It is good to be able to "share" with each other about our beloved Dr. Berish.

I came across this after doing a search for Dr. Berish. I have been thinking about him a lot recently after the birth of my own child. He treated me from the day I was born, until he retired and I was well over the age for a pediatrician, but Dr. Berish's door was always open. He was an excellent doctor, and I couldn't bare the thought of having to find someone else. Another writer stated, "How often does one associate their visits to the pediatrician with fondness and nostalgic memories?" I couldn't say it better myself. Dr. Berish always had a way with his patients, and you knew afterward you were going to feel better, and there would probably be a laugh or two before you left the office. I send my condolonces to his family, whom he spoke about often, with such pride. Dr. Berish leaves behind an amazing legacy. He will be remembered fondly.

We would like to send our deepest sympathies to the family of not only a great doctor but a great man. He was our son's pediatrician until he moved to LA....He had a special gift of keeping parents calm and our son loved him. Most children hate going to the doctor's but our son enjoyed every visit with Andy...He would tell him stories about Sandy Koufax or just baseball in general. He was also a wonderful friend to us...We will miss him terribly.

I was so shocked and saddened to learn of Andy's passing. I worked in the same building with him in Scarsdale. He took care of me for years and once he even treated my dog on a Saturday. I will miss him so much. My deepest condolences to his boys that he loved so much.

Just learned about Andy, so sad to hear. My sincerest condolences to his family. He was very proud of sons. I was not a "pediatric" patient, but a bit of a "baby" when it came to doctors, but Andy would always take care of me, like so many others here at 455 Central Park Avenue. He was very caring, and I will always remember his kindess.

Dear Adam and Josh,
It is difficult to think of a world without Andy Berish. For 20 years he cared for our family, myself, husband, son and daughter. Andy treated our son and we believe literally saved his life through his compassion, medical knowledge and perserverance. I spoke to him 4 years ago as he was retiring and he was still interested in how we were all doing. His wit and sympathy helped to sustain me through many difficult times as a new young mother. There are many unsung heroes in this world and for us Andy was one of them. I am certain that all the children and parents that he helped will hold their memories of him close to their hearts. Our thoughts are with you, your children and family.

I echo my big brother's sentiments: Dr. Andy was not only a great pediatrician, but a warm soul with a colorful sense of humor. He treated me from as young as I can remember until I was 21 years old, and even beyond 21 he always welcomed me back to his office if I needed a check-up or a flu-shot. He felt like a family member, and I'll always remember him with fondness. Rest in peace, Dr. Andy.

I am so distressed to read this. "Dr Andy" as his patients referred to him was funny, compassionate and always the most vibrant character in the room. I'm now 32 years of age however I recall with great fondness my trips to his office for check ups, shots and annual examinations. How often does one associate their visits to the pediatrician with fondness and nostalgic memories? My best to his family, friends and all colleagues.
