Ernest Lewandowski Obituary

Dr. Ernest A. Lewandowski

Dr. Ernest A. Lewandowski, age 88, passed away peacefully on Feb. 7, 2015, in the comfort of his home in Stow, Ohio.

He was the beloved husband of 27 years to Loretta "Rett" (nee Felton-Maslach), whom he married on Valentine's Day in 1987.

He is survived by five of his six children: Denise Brown Palma (Ernie) of University Hts., Thomas A. (Debbie) of Illinois, Gregory E. of Cleveland, Dr. Phillip J. (Abby) of Akron, Jeffery (Kanika) of Queensland, Australia and step-father of Valerie Ann Maslach Moffa (Dr. Donald Anthony) of Hudson; proud grandfather, known as "Poppi Ernie" to his 11 grandchildren and three stepgrandchildren along with three great-grandchildren.

Ernest was born in Garfield Hts. and was the youngest child of Frank P. and Anna (nee Cwiklinski) (both deceased). He was also preceded in death by his daughter Cathy Marie Seifert and his brothers Roman "Ray" (Virginia), Chester (Abbie) and sister, Austina Gruszka.

Dr. "Lew", as he was known, was a 1944 graduate of Cathedral Latin High School, attending Notre Dame college followed by John Carroll University, graduating in 1949 after his service in the Navy during World War II. He went on to earn his medical degree from Kansas City College of Medicine in 1953. He was a founding father of South Point (formerly Brentwood) Hospital and he owned Turney Medical Group, where he practiced family medicine in Garfield Hts. for 40 years before his retiring to Venice, Florida. Ernest returned to the Hudston/Stow area to be near family in 2004.

In his youth, Dr. Lewandowski delighted in playing hockey and football and in later years he enjoyed both golf and tennis. Being deeply spiritual, he found great comfort in his Catholic faith. His sunny disposition touched those around him. Laughter truly was his best medicine and he "prescribed" it for every person with whom he came into contact, even during his final days. Telling jokes and making people laugh is how he will always be remembered.

Honoring his wishes, there will be no calling hours. A private family service will be held. Interment at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. Arrangements by Golubski Funeral Home.

My sweet husband, Ernie, was the light of my life & the center of my universe! I adored him from the moment I met him & feel very lucky to have been his wife. He taught me what true love really was & told me he loved me every night of our marriage. He made me laugh, right up to his last day on this earth. I will miss him every single day, for the rest of my life.
Rest in Peace, Sweetheart..."Well done, Good & Faithful Servant" (Matthew 25:21)

I don't remember the first time I met Dr. Lew, in part because he was a family friend from my childhood. As others have noted, he had a terrific sense of humor and was the kind of doctor that became a confidant and trusted friend who always looked out for your best interest.
My father is also named Ernie. The two Ernies were quite a pair. There are many happy and funny memories of those years at Berkshire Hills.
When my brother, who is also named Ernie, married Dr. Lew's youngest daughter, Denise, we were overjoyed. Three Ernies, each holding a big piece of my heart.
God rest you, Dr. Lew. Peace to everyone grieving your departure.

Rest in peace Uncle Ernie. You were loved by many in this life and will be missed. Our favorite memory of Uncle Ernie is on our wedding day, he grabbed Ron right before the ceremony and told him it's not too late! Run! Here's my credit card and the keys to my vette, you still have time to get away! And we always laughed about that which we think would make him happy. He was there for Dianne when she was so ill, always kind and caring. We loved him, rest in peace, and our sympathy to Tom, Denise, Greg, Phil, Jeff and their families. May God bless you with peace and comfort.

Dr.Lew was one of a generation of Dr's back
from the 50's and 60's that truly cared
about treating and healing his patients.
Taking the time to listen to them.
And being a true D.O. whose motto is
to treat the entire body. People who
were his patients were lucky to have him
as their Dr. He wasn't about the money
like now but being a Dr.
about him no matter how long a day
or tired he might have been. May he enjoy
everlasting peace.

I was so saddened to learn of the passing of "Dr.Lew". He was a very caring and compassionate doctor in all the times I needed to visit him for treatment. Everyone is so right, he always had a smile on his face and when he entered the room you felt so much better even if you were sick. My deepest sympathy to all his family and may he rest in God's loving care for all time. He was a good man.

It's so nice to see all of the kind words said about my dad. He was a mentor to me. He taught me to be a good person which in turn made me a better husband, a good father and, any day now, a loving grandfather. He lived a long and full life, and lived it on his own terms. I'm glad I was able to tell him "I love you" one last time before he passed.

I love you dad and I'll miss you every single day.

It's so gratifying to see the nice comments people are making. This is a man I am proud to call "Dad". He taught me to be a man, a better husband, a good father and, any day now, a great Grandpa. I will sorely miss him, but I know that he led a good life on his terms.

I love you Dad and I'll miss you.

Always There

People can empathize.
But they will never know.
Your pain, your grief, yours alone.
What can be said to comfort?
What respite can be offered?
He was yours and you were his.
In Love those facts will always remain true.
His countenance you will carry.
His heart will be there too.
And so too you are with him.
