Dear Virginia & family, I'm so sorry for your loss. I really enjoyed you guys in the Y swim class. Gary was always down at the deep end where I swam. He was such a great guy - always a smile on his face and always something nice to say. I watched the memorial video - it was beautiful. He will be missed by a lot of people. Such a fine gentleman! I only knew you guys for a short time, but it was my pleasure and you are in my thoughts and prayers. Take care.

Virgina, Kristine and Valerie - I am so saddened to hear Gary is gone. I was honored to work with him for many years. He made me welcome from the first day I worked in the Parks Department. His good humor, honest work ethic, and the joy he brought to us every day made my job a pleasure. It didn't matter how miserable the weather or the job was - he made us all laugh and look at the bright side, and before we knew it, it was the end of the day. He was one of those people who walked into the room, and everyone smiled and was glad to see him. He was a good man who enjoyed nothing more than working hard every day, but what he treasured most was you, his beloved family. I will never forget Gary. He gave me and the men who worked with him such a good example. Much love to you all - Sue (Palazzo) Kramer

Virginia and family....we are going to miss our wonderful neighbor and friend...Mr. Vardon ( I know he always laughed we we called him that) When we moved into the neighborhood he was Mr. Vardon to our girls and we just kept it. We are going to miss seeing him and hearing the Tractor start up or his Truck. What a wonderful man and role model for all of our kids. Please pass on our thoughts and prayers to your whole family...and Christine he was that neighbor who helped out. Just this last fall..Lexi was stuck in our ditch and when Nolan came home from work...Gary just came over and helped. We are here for you. Thank you for you service to our country Gary. A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands now at rest.
His life is a beautiful memory.
His death is a silent grief.
He left quietly, his thoughts unknown.
Lord, please treasure Gary in Your garden of rest.
For on Earth he was one of the best.

With Love and Heartfelt Sympathy to Virgina and Family,

You were an extraordinary man who lived an extraordinary life and now the rest of us have to live in a world without you, and for those who knew you they understand what I'm saying. For those of you who didn't have the honor of meeting him, let me explain. He was THAT man who everyone loved. He was THAT man who knew how to fix anything, could do everything, and would help anyone no matter what. He was the person you'd go to to borrow a tool, get advice on a project, but who would eventually take over your project and finish it himself. He was many things to many people and held many titles throughout his life; son, brother, cousin, uncle, United State's Marine, foreman, firefighter, EMT, captain, friend, and neighbor, but the role that he took most seriously and was the best at was that of husband, father, and grandfather. To everyone else you were Gary or Mr. Vardon, but to me you were DAD. I love you so much and miss you beyond what words can describe. I can't wait to see you again. You will never be forgotten. Your baby girl.
